Excellent
I got this yeast for the first time because the yeast I usually used for my APA was out of stock. This yeast has quickly become my go to yeast. I have been able to push the ABV in my beer to over 10% with great flavor and very little after flavor, with Denny's Fav. 50. I will say I am very pleased with it and its versatility.

Good American Yeast
I have only brewed once with this, though I have an IPA in the fermenter going with a second generation yeast. I used it on an American bitter and really liked it. Low flocculating, it's true, but I did a 10 gallon batch and the second keg sat and mellowed for a few weeks in the cold temperatures and clarified really well. Does keep the malt body without drying out quite as much as 1056. It might be my new go to for pale ales, IPAs, etc.

Pretty good yeast
I used this yeast for a Pumpkin ale that I brewed and it attenuated very well, 78%. The flocculation though was very low. I had to use gelatin in the keg in order to get it to drop out. But as for flavor this yeast really brought out the malt and the pumpkin(I used about three pounds in the mash). I did ferment a little higher then I wanted, about 69-70, but it really didn't cause to much of a problem.

I've made my second rye pale ale with this yeast, and like the first, it turned out totally awesome!!!! I highly recommend this yeast....

Fast and low
This yeast takes off quickly and has great attenuation. If you need a yeast to finish below 1.010 this is it. I use it for a dry pale ale with hops that have a fruity character, perfect every time

Responds well
A little slower than say the 1056 to start, but the fermentation with this strain is solid. Flocculation seems to be good, the yeast cake in the primary was compact and not as loose as I have seen with other yeast strains.

Great yeast in an IPA. Body, malt character, and hop presentation preferred to 1056 in a split fermentation.
I split a batch of American IPA between 1056 and 1450. The 1450 fermented very well at 63 degrees and was raised to 68 degrees after about 90% attenuation. It is visibly less flocculant, even compared to 1056. Malt flavors were clear and gave the impression of sweetness even with about 78% attenuation (80% in 1056). Hop flavors were not at all muted but both the bitterness and flavor were well integrated into the beer. I would highly recommend trying this yeast if you normally use 1056 and are looking for more malt backbone and overall roundness. I preferred the final beer in this case.

Yummy
Ive used this a handful of times now...2 separate rye porters - First one fermented great and second one stuck at 1.030, but I got it down to where I wanted it eventually.RyePA - spectacular!! Great malt and excellent hop flavor. Now just used it on my house porter, and I'm pretty sure it'll be the yeast I stay with from now on.Wonderful work Denny! I love it!!

It's "OK"
I've used this on a couple batches, and while its description as showcasing hops and the malt is true, it has a little bit of a flavor I just don't really care for. Tastes are subject to the individual, so be your own judge. You won't be disappointed, although you may likely prefer other strains.

How does Denny's Favorite work in an oatmeal stout?
D K on Dec 22, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Denny's "50" would work. However, If I had access to a wider selection of yeast I would go with a yeast geared more towards a stout. Wyeast has an excellent yeast and style guide on their website that would help with the selection.
