If you like brown ales, you must try this one!December 12, 2013Best Brown So FarI am a fan of both IPA's and Brown Ales. Two taps are dedicated to each one of these. This browns a keeper. Brewed as directed by instructions, 10-day fermentation, kegged and conditioned for 3wks prior to tasting. I've been savoring this beer for just over a week now and I'm very impressed. It has a good balance of malty character with a slight hop character for balancing. The finish is cleaner than most browns. Nice cocoa and caramel notes. So far, this is my favorite NB brown ale. In an effort to persuade undeserving non-brown ale lovers to try my wife's cream ale over wasting this jem, I named it "Skid Mark".August 13, 2015One of the best NB kitsI've probably bought 10 or so kits from NB, and this is one of the best. Kegged it for a party last week and people couldn't believe it was home brew. Primary for 3 weeks, keg for 1 and force carbonated. Safale US-05.September 29, 2014Excellent RyeJust bottled after 4 weeks in primary (longer than the recipe, but I wanted to bottle another brew at the same time), and came in at 4.99% ABV (OG: 1.054). It still has to carbonate and sit in the bottle for a while, but straight out of the primary it is fantastic. Can't wait to see what it's like after a little bottle conditioning. I actually didn't get that crazy of a fermentation, so I was initially a little concerned. Turns out I had no reason to be concerned.If you're a fan of Sierra's Ruthless Rye, you've got to give this one a try. Thanks NB.October 28, 2014Private Rye Undercover Brown AleI'm a brown ale fan and was a little worried about trying a rye version of one but this turned out great. It's like a slightly peppery version of a brown ale and only 4 weeks till it's ready. Think I'll have one now.September 30, 2015Will brew again!This was a great beer, and even though I served it a bit green it captured rave reviews at a NYE party. Early in the keg (about 10 days) it had a bit of a alcohol finish, but that went un-noticed to most. The rye gave it a slightly dry character which was exactly what I expected. The boil finished a bit above the advertised OG, and fermentation was stong. This one finished out at right around 5.5% abv for me.February 8, 2014Good stuffThis was my 1st 5 gal. batch. I had it in primary for 2 weeks and bottled it today. I used the Safale US-05 I kept it right around 65 degrees F. I had a bottle that would not cap (Woodchuck cider bottle) so I just drank it :) I LOVED it, I can't wait until it's "matured" a bit I'll update this review on or around 10/31/14September 26, 2014Very goodI really enjoyed this brew and will plan to make it again some time. Browse 1 question Browse 1 question and 2 answersThe kit comes with one oz of Columbus hops but the recipe calls for half an oz. has anyone added the full oz?BEST ANSWER: I thinks it's perfect with half ounce! The other half is extra and so feel free to save it for a rainy day or a 'kitchen sink' brew. I have not tried it that way personally and we recommend following the recipe, at least the first time to get an idea for how the beer is supposed to be. Cheers!
