HERE’S THE FUN PART! Every starter kit comes complete with your choice of recipe kit. Just pick one of the classic Northern Brewer recipes below and you’ll have all the ingredients you need to take your new gear out for a test drive.

Caribou Slobber Brown Ale - Like your brews tall, dark and drinkable? Then try Caribou Slobber Brown Ale. Perfect for fans of sub- stantial craft beer, this ale is full-bodied and smooth, deliciously dark without a hint of bitterness. Guaranteed to become your new favorite session beer.

Irish Red Ale - If you’re looking for a perfectly-balanced, crowdpleasing pint, you can’t go wrong with our Irish Red Ale. There’s a reason this kit is our best-seller. Actually, three reasons: great, medium-bodied taste, rich coppery color and enticingly low aging requirements.

The Plinian Legacy- A true west-coast style Double IPA, this recipe boasts a hefty, straightforward malt bill to support a relentless barrage of hops. Waves of floral, citrus and pine crash into candied citrus and resinous, earthy flavors. A resoundingly fresh IPA flavor profile highlights each unique characteristic, featuring notes of juicy orange peel, puckering lemon and the refreshing, tropical burst of pineapple to match a bittering finish.

Off the Topper - A hurricane of hops explodes with flavors of fruity pineapple and dank piney-peach. Surprisingly drinkable for the excessive lupulin, this is an exciting starter recipe not for the faint of heart. Hazy and aromatic, bitter grapefruit and tropical nectarine crash into notes of orange and zesty citrus for a profile bursting with resinous hop character.

American Wheat - Like their German cousins, American wheat beers feature large proportions of malted wheat in the grain bill and are naturally a bit cloudy in appearance. Unlike German Hefe Weizen, though, American wheat beers have a bit more hop character and are fermented with a milder-tasting yeast, resulting in a more clean, neutral finish. With a spicy noble hop aroma and tart finish, it's a spritzy, refreshing crowd-pleaser.

Perfect way to start Review by Craig
I've put 5 batches through this kit so far and all have turned out excellent. Getting ready to move up to 5 gallon batches and kegging in a few more weeks. NB, thanks to you and this kit, you've made a home brewer out of me. Cheers!

I did have a little trouble with the bottling wand. I just went over to my LHBS and picked up a spring loaded wand for a few dollars, which solved my issues. (Posted on 3/26/15)
A lot of lost volume! Review by Adam
I brewed this recipe per the instructions, with a couple of minor modifications during the fermentation stages. I used a 2 gallon fermenting bucket for primary, then racked to the 1 gallon carboy for secondary. The kit also came with a packet of Simcoe that wasn't in the contents list, and about 11 additional grams of Simply Select hops. I used these to double dry hop the recipe in secondary.

With that being said, there are a few things I'd change. First, I found this brew to be a bit too bitter for my tastes. I might back off the initial 60 minute hop addition a bit and add that amount back in at 30 minutes. Second, you will lose a good amount of volume to hop additions, so bear that in mind. I ended up losing about 20oz. That may not seem like much, but when you consider that this is only a 128oz expected yield, that's almost 16% of the total! If I were to brew this again, I'd probably either add more water in the boil or top off in the secondary to make up for the lost volume.

All in all, this is an excellent kit to start with, and the 1 gallon batch size makes for an excellent way to get your toes wet and experiment with home brewing. With a little tweaking, this beer would be stellar! (Posted on 3/25/15)
Made a believer out of me Review by Ty
This kit came to me as a recommendation on a beer group I'm in on Facebook.
My request was for "a good kit to start brewing that was good enough that the equipment wasn't going to hinder me, but not so expensive that if I don't like it, I'm not out a ton of cash."

There were 10 responses to my request in about 5 minutes, and they were all for this kit.

I ordered the kit with the Caribou Slobber.

It arrived packed better than some of the equipment we get at work (and we pay multiple tens of thousands of dollars for that stuff).

There was a great packing list (with pictures!!! That's awesome for a complete noob like me) that helped verify everything was there.

The how-to DVD did a great job telling you what to do (I would add that you should practice with the bottling wand, it took a bit of practice to get right... but I was bottling by myself... I don't recommend that).

Finding a container to sterilize the siphon, tubing, etc. in was as simple as a trip to the local Big Box retail store. I found a rectangular plastic box with a cover that also served as storage for the siphon, bottling wand, and tubing (SCORE!).

Just cracked open my first Caribou Slobber tonight.

It's hard to believe something like this came from my kitchen. :)

I highly recommend this kit to anyone looking to get into brewing.

Love this set up! Review by Christopher
To start I love small "gadgets", so a "mini brewery" is right up my alley. It was very hard for me to decide between the pilinean legacy, and off the topper. I went with the legacy (since I have had focal banger, but have never had "elder"), and the brew turned out fantastic! My wife said it was the best IPA she had ever had! Everything seems to be good quality, and should last a while. The only gripe i have, is I wish the fermcap-s (and possibly the newly released mini big mouth bubbler) was standard issue in these kits. My saison got really rowdy on the first night, and caused a huge mess. Word to the wise, use a blow off from the beginning with this kit on EVERY strain/brew because things can escalate VERY quickly! Thankfully I have the "booster pack" now to contain the party!

Excellent Starter Kit Review by Matthew
I'm a first time home brewer and this starter kit was perfect for somebody with little to no experience. The kit came with almost all the parts necessary to brew a small batch of beer and the instructions broke down the process very nicely. I ordered the kit with the Irish Red Ale and I think it turned out fairly well. I have already ordered 2 more recipe kits another carboy and it's safe to say I'm hooked to the process of making my own beer. (Posted on 2/11/15)
    Awesome Kit Review by brewdude
I purchased this kit as my first venture into the world of home brewing and I must say it is excellent. The recipe kit I brewed was The Plinian Legacy and it far exceeded my expectations. I've only done one batch thus far and just ordered my second batch to brew. If you are on the fence about it just go for it. The only thing i would suggest is just go for the 5 gallon kit, you will wish you have after you get a taste of it. (Posted on 1/21/15)
Great deal Review by L.L. Ransom
This was a Christmas gift from my awesome wife. I am very pleased with it. Directions for the Caribou Slobber that came with it were clear and easy. I'm currently conditioning my bottles, and have the Irish Red conditioning in the same case. Couldn't resist moving ahead with the second batch after I got a second fermentor. Everything you need is in the box. If you're waiting, don't. If you're not sure if it's worth it...get it! I'm hooked now. I'm already thinking about upscaling so I can make a 5 gallon Dunkel for a Memorial Day party we're going to. Also, start watching youtube videos on brewing. They're a huge help and highly addictive. New home brewer for life. (Posted on 1/9/15)
A good starter kit but... Review by Brad
A great idea, a great starter recipe with the DIPA Plinian. My only quibble is that some of the tubing does not create a complete seal with the siphoner. A great concept, good kit, and decent instructions. It will make a good pilot system for my established home-brew system. (Posted on 12/18/14)
Awesome for a new brewer Review by Reese

Good deal on a great kit. Review by Jacob
I had a lot of fun brewing my first batch with this kit. Comes with everything you absolutely need for brewing. For my second batch, I went out and purchased a thermometer and hydrometer, which I would recommend. The thermometer will help you make sure you pitch in the best temperature range and the hydrometer will help you determine alcohol content and will help troubleshoot when you start experimenting more with recipes. Another victim Review by Troy
I was another victim of the intense fermentation. It was a great learning experience for sure. Bottled after about 2 weeks. Use Woodford Reserve. Flavors were great. Opened first bottle after about 2 weeks and could tell it could sit a little while longer. 4 weeks was nice, but I had a carbonation issue. Must not have capped it very well. Just opened another bottle after 8 weeks and it is quite nice. Would like to take another run at it. (Posted on 9/22/14)
Perfect starter kit Review by Ian
I ordered this kit with zero previous brewing experience with the Irish Red Ale recipe. The instructions were super clear and easy to follow. After 8 days in fermentation and two weeks bottle conditioning, my friends and I absolutely love it. I was so proud of my home brew I ordered a second fermentation jug to stagger batches. I am proud to say I am now a homebrewing enthusiast thanks to NB! (Posted on 9/17/14)
Perfect for the space and time challenged- seriously, get this. Review by Matthew
I have not been able to brew for years now due to space issues and time constraints. This has been perfect. The little one gallon jug sits on my kitchen counter bubbling away. I bottle into four 750ml bottles and it takes 45 minutes start to finish.

I just bottled my second batch while drinking the Caribou Slobber that came with the kit. It came out great! Northern Brewer has been great too- when the bottle filler from the kit came defective they replaced it without question. (Posted on 7/26/14)
Awesome Starter Kit Review by Sheldon
I got this kit with absolute ZERO experience in brewing....I just wanted to give it a try! This great little kit comes with everything you need to get started along with very comprehensive instructions. Be warned though - Once you get started, its super addicting!! :) (Posted on 4/24/14)
    Great Kit Review by Frankie
After a ton of debating I bought this kit with the Whitehouse Honey Ale recipe kit. I also bought a second carboy and the Dead Ringer Recipe kit. I have both fermenting right now and will be ready to bottle in a week. Kit comes with just about everything I needed other than the kettle, bottles, and a hydrometer. The only complaint I have is the description doesnt say how many caps come with the kit(20), that may or may not be enough for both batches but isnt that big of a deal. Instructions and videos are easy to follow which made the process go smoothly. Im ready to brew my next batch soon!

Great Starter Kit Review by Dustin
After a minor shipping delay, my kit finally arrived. Everything I expected to see in the kit was there and well packed. This is the 3 different kit I've recieved from 3 different companies. I have to say this is the best. The price was slightly higher than the last one I purchased but came with more equipment. I plan to continue refining my brew technique on a few more 1-gallon batches. Before long, I will be purchasing a 5-gallon kits, and I'm 100% sure it will come from Northern Brewer. (Posted on 3/11/14)
My husband loved this! Review by Janna
I got this as a gift for my husband who had no previous beer brewing experience. His first batch was the American Wheat, and we just cracked open a bottle and it turned out awesome (even with a couple of minor beginner mistakes) The instructions were clear and easy to follow. He can't wait to start a new batch. This is a perfect gift for anyone who enjoys drinking beer. A fun way to start a cool new hobby! Thanks NB for the fast shipping and reasonable prices! Great way to start brewing or if you have little space Review by Christopher
This little kit is awesome! If you don't have a lot of room or you want to dabble with home brewing on the cheap, this is a great way to go. I would suggest that you get an extra airlock or two. Be prepared for blow off, I've had it happen twice. I would add ½ " ID tubing for this purpose to connect to the top tube piece of the three part air lock as the piece that comes with the kit takes some finesse to get on. Even with those two suggestions I still give it 5 stars because if you are a newbie, every site warns you to be prepared for blow off. For the price, you really do get most of what you need. I would go ahead and get an extra ingredient kit, as you learn more and get better if what you just did right or wrong is still fresh in your mind. (Posted on 2/18/14)
Fun and Yum Review by AA
I gave this kit as a gift to my boyfriend with the Irish Red Ale. We love drinking beer and were interested in brewing but didn't think we had the space, as we live in a very small apartment. The process was very well explained through the instructional video and pamphlet included, we had a lot of fun doing it, and the beer turned out great. I'd definitely recommend this kit for anybody who wants to try brewing but has limited space. (Posted on 2/12/14)
A "gateway" kit :) Review by Rowan
My husband and I weren't sure if we wanted to start brewing (lots of overhead, chance of a bad batch, etc.) but this little systems (and the kits) are just awesome! So fast, easy, and fun! They make ~9-10 bottles each and are a great way to experiment! (Posted on 2/5/14)
Great for Small Apartment Review by Chris
I wanted to get in to homebrew but was cautious to get the 5gal set because of I live in a smaller apartment. Ended up getting the 1gal for a gift and it was perfect. I'm excited to practice on this small setup and scale up when I have the space (Posted on 2/2/14)
Great way to start Review by Ken
Just drinking a bottle - very good!
Both the equipment and Caribou Slobber kit instructions were easy to follow. Fermentation started quickly. I can't wait to try a pale ale kit! (Posted on 1/31/14)
    Fantastic Kit Review by Nicholas
This kit is awesome for the new brewer because it allows for quick turn-around and rapid brewing. The process is just like any other extract/special grain brew, but you aren't left with two cases at the end. For the new brewer this is great because it means more brewing without worry of losing space!

My buddy and I use it when we want to experiment with a weird idea. Just make sure you take good notes just in case it's delicious! (Posted on 1/26/14)

Great Intro to Brewing Review by Zack
I have wanted to brew beer for years, but the places I have lived made it sorta tough. After finding Northern Brewing and the 1 gallon Small Batch kit, I have to say I’m hooked. The kit had everything you need to get going; I already had the bottles and a pasta pot, now I have beer!!! I would recommend this, and I have to a bunch of friends that give me the “I always wanted to do brew beer” answer when I tell them I brewed beer. I’ve jumped up to my first 5 gallon batch, but there will be more 1 gallon small batches in the future. (Posted on 1/20/14)

Great for Beginners/Eventual test batches Review by Troy
I bought this small batch kit to try my hand at home brewing without having to drain pour a full 5-6 gallons based on my anticipation of screwing up. Turns out this kit and the associated DVD/instructions make it fool proof. Once I decide to upgrade to a bigger system, this gallon system will be great for test batches. (Posted on 1/13/14)

I am very pleased with this kit. I went to visit my cousin and her fiance who loves to brew his own beer and he introduced the kits to me. I wanted to start out with the 1 gallon kits to see if brewing beer is something I would enjoy and now I love it. I even have my wife brewing too. We have already brewed 4 1 gallon kits and have 2 more on the shelf waiting to be brewed. (Posted on 12/4/13)

Seems pretty good Review by Matt
I have been interested in home brewing for a long time, but kept putting off trying it myself. The subject came up again while drinking at home with a few friends. I found Northern Brewer online and saw how cheap this kit was. I ordered it and it was at my door within 72 hours.

I brewed my first beer the night I got it and I was hooked... Though I wont be able to drink it until December 6th. I enjoyed the process so much I have already ordered another one gallon glass jug and two more recipe kits.

My first thought in deciding what to order was the get the biggest most expensive kit they offered, but I decided this smaller kit is better for experimenting and getting it right. Plus, if I do it wrong, I'd rather a gallon of undrinkable beer than two gallons. (Posted on 11/24/13)
    wonderful! Review by joshua
I got the American wheat and have just finished brewing we added peaches to it with the help of the northern brewer team (thanks guys) and it's amazing.... We're gonna keep brewing in small batch but increase amour of various to mix and match flavors.

loved everything about this kit, nice way to experiment to see what I like, and then go for a five gallon batch. Only thing is I thought the capper was a bit flimsy, felt like I was going to break it. All in all a great kit! (Posted on 11/5/13)
Excellent For Beginners Review by Charles
This is the perfect first time brewer. Its small enough to brew in a 2 gallon kettle and ferment under the sink. My wife was against me brewing because of a lack of space. This small batch starter kit allowed me to brew and not have to listen to my wife complain. And the beer tasted great! The only problem is 1 gallon is only 8-12oz beers 9-12oz if you are lucky. Its also a great and fun hobby !! (Posted on 11/2/13)
A joy to use! Review by Brian Childers
I bought the deluxe brewing kit (glass) online a few weeks ago, and then a week later, I saw this 1 gallon small batch starter kit online and thought I'd give it a try - as it could be something that would keep me distracted while the beer is fermenting in the 6 gallon carboy. Needless to say I am now hooked on small batch brewing as well, as I see the opportunity to try out new recipes without having to commit to large scale brewing. I used the same 5 gallon pot that I did for my large scale as it allowed me to do a full boil without having to worry about boilover. I am planning on picking up some more gallon jugs so I can have several batch going on at the same time (SKU: 41098). I would also recommend using the rubber stopper that is used with the 5/6 gal. carboys (SKU: 7081) rather than the plastic stopper that is sold with the kit. I'm a happy / satisfied customer! Like the small batch turnaround Review by CB
Only been brewing for less than a year but have been totally hooked. Slowly working my way up the difficulty scale but wanted a way to sample other beers without the normal 5 gallon turnaround time.

Saw the one gallon batches on NB and thought it was worth a try. So far have not been disappointed. Just bottled my Caribou Slobber this morning and cannot wait to see how it tastes. Already looking at getting a one gallon pipeline started with the West Coast Red as my next project. Great way to practice and enjoy the fruits of your labor (with a little less labor). The kit is great, simple and clear instructions and it has almost everything you need for your first brew. Just remember to get a 2 gallon pot for boiling and pick up some materials for cleaning your carboy after fermentation. (Posted on 9/17/13)

    Oh Boy.... Review by Reese
I think I made a mistake...in a good way. I chose the small batch to "experiment" in the beer brewing hobby. Now I'm hooked. Great kit, perfect for beginners and those of limited space. If you are thinking about brewing and don't have a lot of room, this small batch kit is perfect. Highly recommend! (Posted on 9/11/13)
Very good entrance equipment kit. Review by Mike
Needs a fermenting bucket to make this a truely great starter system. I've just started home brewing. I am not a big beer drinker mostly because I cannot find a commercial style I like. With the 1 gallon system I can experiment without getting stuck with a beer I dislike or the expense. (Posted on 9/8/13)
    AWESOME Review by Leon
It's now 9:43 PM EST. The UPS truck failed to deliver my kit today so I had to go to the local office and pick it up, personally.

IT"S AWESOME!!!! I can't wait to brew my first batch tomorrow.

Already thinking about ordering another kit and some extra carboys.

    Brew On. (Posted on 9/4/13)

Great way to get addicted! Review by Margaret
After reading an article about the GMO (genetically modified organisms) commercial brewers use I decided I wanted to go as organic as possible and brew my own. I lurked on a couple of the leading boards for quite some time researching and learning. I came to the conclusion I simply wasn't ready to jump off the 5 gallon cliff just yet. I wanted to make good beer first then lots of it later! I visited the LBS and they were not really into the 1 gallon scene. I get that most of their "serious" brewers (customers) are into 5 or 10 gallon focus. I am certain I am taking my 1 gallon process and outcome just as seriously - the only difference between us - volume. My sense is NB is committed to the 1 gallon audience as well as the 5, 10 and 15 gallon brewers. It appears NB scales from novice to pro and I'm looking forward to having them as my partner as my brewing skills and interests develop. From my research I determined I wanted to stay away from the cans of LME and the "ancient" yeast affiliated with those kits. NB has an excellent reputation and in them I threw my brewing trust! I interacted with NB via their on-line chat, email and over the phone before placing my order and once it arrived. All modes were OUTSTANDING. The customer service excellence at NB is delivered via each mode with patience, understanding and professionalism. I was particularly impressed when I learned they put each kit together to fill the order - with fresh ingredients - versus having them stock piled. I'm one week into primary fermentation and all is well ... can't wait to crack the first one open and oh yeah - brew again. Thanks for the support along the way and making it so easy to get into brewing. If you are like me and doing your "looking" before "leaping" - you've found the perfect kit and place with NB - (Posted on 9/2/13)

Starting Out Right with Irish Red Ale Review by Jeff
Looking for a smooth start to lend to smooth flavor, then look no further than the one gallon Irish Red Ale Kit. This starter kit is so easy! Your tongue will unleash its' own mind as the bold complexities are send past the pallet with a tangy-citrusy aftertaste. Wet is met with dry. Crisp is met with dark. The Irish Red Ale kit is like an old timey Celtic Band playing the fiddle on your grains and the drum on your hops. If you are just getting into brewing at home, then I highly recommend you start out with the Irish Red Ale. You be delighted in either case... or two cases...that you made your own. All for Brew, Brew for All, enjoy that Irish Red Ale! (Posted on 7/14/13)
Great small batch starter Review by Daniel
Bought this kit as a way of " getting my feet wet" I've since upgraded to the essential brewing kit and will eventually upgrade to the deluxe. Highly recommend this or any other starter kit for the beginner, be warned you will get addicted. (Posted on 6/14/13)
Fantastic for the beginner Review by BwanaJoe
We had no prior brewing experience when we purchased this kit. As a matter of fact the only thing I'd done was read Homebrewing for Dummies (I highly recommend it for newbies.) The directions in the kit are straight forward and very easy to follow. You have both a CD and a laminated card to follow when brewing. Combine those with the individual directions in each beer kit and you really can't go wrong. If you can make Mac and Cheese you can brew decent beer. Even with a boil over and a bit of explosive day 1 fermentation our first batch came out tasting great.

I have a only a couple of gripes about the kit none of which detract from the 5 star rating. The first happens to do with blow off during fermentation. The laminating card briefly, as an aside, mentions using the blow off tubing IF needed. (The customer service guy said he always uses it) So far, on all three batches we've done, we've needed that tubing. If it hadn't been for reading Homebrewing for Dummies and the Complete Joy of Homebrewing (buy both!) I really wouldn't have known what to do. That leads me into my second gripe; if the primary jug was 1.5 gallons instead of 1 gallon the tubing wouldn't be needed.

Now a mention about NB's customer service. In a word, OUTSTANDING. I lost track of the amount of calls I made asking some very basic questions before, during, and after brewing. Each was answered cheerfully, politely, and fully. These guys are great and really make the whole process a pleasure.

I'm sold and we are on the fourth batch right now and are ordering more kits for summer brewing fun.

Nice Experiment kit Review by William
I bought this kit and also the upgrade to the 5 single gallon kit batch. (I didnt want to throw away half a yeast packet each time i brewed)

This kit is nice for a beginner and it will treat you with a nice experience for making beer. The kit is also really nice for the intermediate brewer that likes to cycle through recipes quickly... I'm the second.

I was lucky and unlucky enough to have a house where the temp is always between 69-70 degrees which is great for fermenting ales; however, i have been experiencing the need for blowoff tube for every batch so far. (I'm still as of yet to get into IPA's for the 1 gallon jugs.) Its not negative thing just a note for when you are fermenting.

The big treasure for me was that i only needed to bottle 10 beers as bottling 5 gallons gets tedious. That alone is worth it for me.

The major con of this single gallon set would be that when you make a recipe or get ahold of a recipe from wherever, almost all recipes are for 5+ gallons. So you would need a scale that goes into grams in order to run what you need.

I'd strongly suggest getting the 4 gallon upgrade kit so that you can use them as secondary fermenters as single gallon gets pretty cloudy pretty easy. With 5 gallons you can run 2 in primary, 2 in secondary, and a big beer in 5th.

Overall i think its a great kit. Well thought out and easy to clean. I would recommend it to anyone who is just starting or wants to cycle quicker. (Posted on 5/12/13)
Great Way to Start Review by Andreas
I went with the 1 gallon kit because I did not want to mess up a 5 gallon batch and have it all to to waste, and because I did not want to have to buy a bigger kettle to make a 5 gallon recipe.

The 1 gallon kit is great because it allows you to brew many different styles without worrying about a lot of wasted beer if you do not like it. The problem is I've liked all my beers. Northern Brewer has great recipe kits and the instructions combined with the online video tutorials and forum means that help is available all the time. I usually yield between 8-10 beers from a batch. They've turned out great, which I am thrilled about, but I always wish I had more than 8-10 beers to drink and share with friends.

My suggestion would be to pay the extra $30 and get the Essential Starter kit if you have a large enough kettle already. A larger batch does take a bit more time to make, but its definitely worth having the extra beer to drink and share. If you are tight on space and/or money the 1 gallon kit is great, and it will surely get you addicted to homebrewing.

Cool as ice! Review by Brodie
I mainly bought the one gallon batch kit so I could experiement with my own recipes more on a smaller scale that way if they turn out bad, I'm not dumping 5 gallons or more down the drain. If they turn out good, then I scale up the recipe and brew a full 5 gallons or more on my main set up. I chose the White House Honey ale because my wife showed interest in it and I've been trying to get her more into beer.

The brew went effortlessly, but I am already experienced with brewing so this wasn't a challenge or mystery to me. This is a great kit for getting started and not ready to make the full plunge into the bigger brewing rigs, or for more experienced brewers such as myself who want something to noodle around or experiment with. All in all, I think it was worth the money. I was a little miffed about the fact that the 1.5 lb. jar of malt extract didn't have a seal between the lid and some of it leaked inside the ingredients box. I was able to still use the kit. I just added some brown sugar to the boil to compensate for what was lost in the spill. This may have been UPS's fault since they are notorious for throwing packages carelessly. (They are my mortal enemy as I am a U.S. Postal Worker. HAHA) The auto siphon had a small crack in it as well but still worked fine, but I already had a few laying around so it was no biggie for me. (Again, probably UPS's fault! LOL)

Minus those few small issues, I am overall pleased with everything Northern Brewer has to offer that I've bought in the past. I recommend the small batch brew kit highly. Not sure about the White House Honey Ale recipe kit yet though. A month or so and I shall be able to give it the thumbs up or down. Brewing is a lof of fun. Party on Wayne!

(4 star rating given only because my package was a little messed up due to the lack of a seal on the malt extract jar and the crack auto siphon. If those things hadn't happened, it would be a 5 for quality, value and ease of use.) (Posted on 4/19/13)
Nice kit for beginners Review by Diane
This kit is very nice for the beginning or "hobby" brewer. I didn't want to get into large scale brewing but was curious about it and this was just the thing. You get everything you need to start and I only gave it 4 stars because I would add the following items: second carboy fermentor with blow-off tubing, a few brushes for clean-up, extra sanitizer, and the 2 gallon bucket to put the carboy in during fermentation as I am learning all about blow-off. I am on my 3rd brew now and have to say it is a very fun experience. I get about 6-16oz bottles per batch and this is just enough for me to experiment with home brewing. Be sure to order extra kits as you will get hooked! (Posted on 3/24/13)
Returned to Home Brewing with this kit Review by Mark

I found a new hobby! Review by PETE
I got a kit for Christmas and added a second jug and airlock. I now have one batch ready to drink, a second batch bottled, a batch in each of the jugs, and another recipe kit ready to go once one of the jugs frees up. I am enjoying the heck out of this. Making the small batch is so easy, clean up is easy, and my first batch of Caribou Slobber came out great! I highly recommend this to any beer lover. (Posted on 1/31/13)
All but the "auto" is there... Review by Kenneth
I was completely satisfied by what I received except for the supposed "auto" siphon. I'm not sure if I was using it incorrectly or if it only works with a larger batch but I had to pump it multiple times for the entire transfer. That was the only let down. It is virtually impossible to do alone. I'll be required to filter my brew once I bottle it, in a few days, with all the sediment I sucked into my fermentation vessel. other than this, again, I was completely satisfied. A decent buy for a beginner. The siphon is still a mystery though. (Posted on 12/3/12)
Love one gallon batches and this kit is great. Review by Tony
First off I am a big fan of small batch brewing. I just don't have the time or space for a big brewing operation. From boiling the wort to bottling it is so much faster and easier to deal with one gallon. I have one shelf in a closet where I keep my equipment and a dozen or so 22oz bottles waiting to drink. This kit has everything you need except a basic soup pot and some bottles. Everything is great quality and seems like it will last. I have been doing small batches for a couple years and this kit replaced my old plastic bucket setup. I wish this was available when I first started. I also love the fact that there are more recipe kits available. If you are thinking about trying brewing this is a great way to start. You may just stick with it. I have even done one gallon all grain batches. (Posted on 12/1/12)
    Love it! Review by Shawn
I've wanted to try brewing but knew a regular kit would most likely make for an unhappy wife. When I ran across this kit I was excited. I could learn to brew and have the equipment take up very little space. This kit is great.

I just cracked open my first bottle of summer wheat and thought it was great. Had more character than I was expecting. My second batch was Caribou Slobber and that will be ready to try next week just in time for thanksgiving. I have a batch of Irish Red fermenting as well as Sierra Madre and Cream Ale kits ready to brew. Needless to say I'm hooked.

One thing I added to this set up was a bottling bucket which allows me to bottle by myself without help. Bought a 2 gallon fermenter and a spout of the website. Drilled the one inch hole and viola, a 2 gallon bottling bucket. Works great! (Posted on 11/15/12)
    Awesome Kit Review by Sam
I bought this small kit just to see what it was like to start. when i first brewed my first batch i was nervous, it was the Irish Red. I did everything correctly but i couldnt wait to taste it so i tasted the brew too soon. lol tasted horrible but i gave it another week before i tried it again. And behold the beer was ready, and it tasted decent, then i brewed the caribou slobber, which is now conditioning, and i currently finished brewing the dead ringer kit. My next step is to advance to a larger kit. (Posted on 11/9/12)
