Tallgrass Oasis Pro Series All-Grain Kit

SKU: U0784

At a hefty 7.2% ABV and 93 IBU, Oasis is a big beer with over-the-top hops and surprisingly sturdy malt backbone. Definitely not a fruit-extract seasonal shandy, this beer is meant to be enjoyed on the back porch, the front porch, or even on the stoop.

Recommended: 2-stage fermentation and yeast starter.

- ADVANCED EQUIPMENT NEEDED -
Recommended: Deluxe 10 Gallon All-Grain System

We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts. It is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

Details

Oasis is a Double ESB/IPAish beer that came about from playing around with one of Tallgrass founder Jeff Gill’s favorite homebrew recipes. What's a stoop? Well, it's a good place to drink beer, is what it is.

Since 2007, Tallgrass Brewing Co. has been crafting award-winning ales at the edge of the Flint Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. In addition to the quality of their beer, they’re known for their packaging, sense of humor, and an adventurous, experimental spirit that’s true to their homebrewing roots. Tallgrass chose Northern Brewer to help bring their recipes to homebrewers everywhere through our Pro Series line of beer kits - cheers!

A note on yeast: Tallgrass uses White Labs WLP007 Dry English Ale; with Tallgrass' blessing, we suggest Wyeast 1098 as the default option so customers (especially mail order customers) can more easily evaluate viability before brewing.

Recommended: 2-stage fermentation and yeast starter.

I'll start by saying I've never had the original....can't even get it in the New Orleans area but, NB sold me on a video months ago.
I ordered the kit and waited awhile to brew it. This was my first time using 1450 and I couldn't wait to taste this.
Trouble was, after 3 weeks of fermenting then into the keg, my tri-tap kegerator had no room so the keg sat at room temp for almost a month before there was space (I need to drink more).
So, after only 4 days on gas, I had to taste it. Awesome. Everything this drinker likes in a beer. If I had any negatives at all it would be to have more aroma but I may have lost that with long condition time.
One more thing was that my FG wasn't as low and I've read that 1450 doesn't attenuate so great.
It's expensive but you have to try this at least once. (Posted on 11/10/12)
