It's brown, it's named after a large North American ungulate, and its name suggests oral incontinence. Ah, we market product with our minds, but we drink beer with our mouths! Which is why this American brown ale is your new favorite session beer. Dense layers of malt, caramel, baking chocolate, and a hint of light-roast coffee give way to reveal a hop character you'll be surprised to find if you're used to drinking English brown ale. The finish is complex but balanced, and the gravity is not so high as to keep you from having another.

Great First Homebrew Review by Brian
Rating
Well i can finally sit down and write one. I has been a few weeks since i first cracked a brew and i can only say it has gotten better. The flavors and the aroma of the beer is fantastic. It did get a little darker than i would have liked but the flavor and how easily drinkable this beer is was amazing. I have had numerous friends who brew and some that don't compliment me on this and I will most likely brew it again someday. Perfect numbers for the gravity testing and i did have a busy first few days of fermenting. Blow of tube was needed but nothing was lost! Great Brew and on to the next!
THANKS NB! (Posted on 6/2/14)
Great Session Ale Review by CCP

I actually had a mispick on my kit, and I received twice the specialty grains and no DME (quickly remedied by NB's awesome customer service). Waste not, want not, so in the kettle the extra grains went.

The results were a darker (near porter) body with the most amazing aroma and flavor. I may never make the standard recipe again.

15 days primary, 5 days in keg (FC @ 2.5), White Labs WLP041, ended at 4.86% ABV. Yeast was a bit slow to start, but that's probably just my perception from normally using a starter and not doing so here.

Great Brew!!! Review by MC

Picked this kit with my starter kit. NB accidently sent irish red ale instead. Made it right and sent the CB Slobber free of charge. Irish red was very bitter and i messed up the bottle carbonation by not putting fresh 15ml of yeast in bottling bucket. Anyhow...I half hopped the kit and it turned out great. The brew was so good I just ordered another kit.....I am actually bummed to be out of it. Can't wait to get the next kit so I can have more on hand....highly recommended......The more it conditioned the better it is....Great brew!!!! (Posted on 5/15/14)
Great fall/winter beer Review by Alex

This beer is easy to make and easy to enjoy! If you like a little smoother of an after taste try two or three cups of brown sugar with the last set of hops. Remember to let the beer ferment an extra two to three weeks as well. More sugar=longer ferment, enjoy! (Posted on 5/13/14)
pretty good brew Review by David

I enjoyed the caribou slobber, not my go to beer, but a pretty good brew, seems like a good year around beer, not too heavy, not too light, good flavor, I don't care for brown ales but this is good all around--cheers (Posted on 5/11/14)
Better with age Review by Thomas

This was my first attempt at home brewing. After 4 weeks in primary and 2 weeks of bottle conditioning I wasn't too impressed with the results. It tasted ok, but smelled stale when poured into a glass and was under carbed. I summed it up to my inexperience in brewing and figured I had made some mistakes during the brew process. After 2 months in the bottle it started to really develop its taste. Just tried another at 5 months and WOW! The funky smell is gone and it taste great. Definitely recommend letting this one sit a while. (Posted on 5/5/14)
Great brew! Review by Nick

So I did about 3 batches with the ol Mr. beer kit before I decided to grow up and get the northern brewer deluxe kit...great decision! I went ahead and made a yeast starter for this brew to ensure high quality and it really paid off. 2 weeks primary, 2 more secondary. I tried one after 1 week in the bottle and got nervous about the strong bitterness aftertaste...a week later and it mellowed out Soo much!!! My friend only drinks lame yellow beer in a can and I gave him one and he is in love! He said if he can brew this himself he won't buy that crap flavorless beer anymore! Such a great beer that continues to get better with time. Solid body, little to no hoppiness and you can drink this year round.

Next batch I want something with more bite being from the northwest so I'll be digging an IPA or that bourbon porter for the cold winter. You can't go wrong with the kit and this recipe do it!!! Your friends and family will no longer laugh at your hobby! My Mr. Beer batches got dumped they all tasted terrible this is the real deal! (Posted on 5/4/14)
May be my new go-to beer Review by Christopher

I have brewed this twice now, just to make sure the first one wasn't a fluke of luck! I used the Danstar yeast, and did not do a secondary, just 4 weeks in the primary, bottled, conditioned 2 weeks. WOW! I can't keep this stuff around because everyone who tries this one isn't interested in any of my other brews. It is going to be a regular, and may just be my new go-to brew. Easy and EXCELLENT!! 5 stars plus! (Posted on 4/29/14)
First Brew Review by Seth

Overall not a bad brew. This was my first and it went pretty well. There are some flavors that are not pleasant with this, the beer itself is fine but the burps are almost plasticy. I contribute this to my water and will try this again with bottled water to confirm. O.G. was 1.052 F.G. 1.020 slighlty over 4 weeks of fermentation. (Posted on 4/15/14)
