It's brown, it's named after a large North American ungulate, and its name suggests oral incontinence. Ah, we market product with our minds, but we drink beer with our mouths! Which is why this American brown ale is your new favorite session beer. Dense layers of malt, caramel, baking chocolate, and a hint of light-roast coffee give way to reveal a hop character you'll be surprised to find if you're used to drinking English brown ale. The finish is complex but balanced, and the gravity is not so high as to keep you from having another.

This one is a pounder! Review by Old Raspy

This kit was free (promotional offer) with the purchase of a new keg. Having recently moved to AG brewing, I probably wouldn't have opted for the extract kit, but it was great nonetheless. The best part about brew day was adding the steeping grains. Right away, I knew this brew was legit as soon as the smell of chocolate and coffee met my olfactory nerve! After a week in the keg, this brew is just starting to hit it's peek. With a low ABV, this makes for a great session beer. Can't wait to try the AG version. (Posted on 2/3/14)

Aroma + Flavor = AMAZING! Review by Wild Thing Brewing

I have been brewing for 5 years in Alaska. The good people at Northern Brewer ave me the opportunity to brew this exceptional beer. The intiti wort smelled amazing. I followed the 1 2 3 rule and after 3 weeks of bottling I could not be happier with my purchase. The aroma was sweet and smelled of caramel. The flavor was balanced and had a depth I have not had before. Even my wife who is picky loved this beer. This will be in my regar rotation. This is a must brew! (Posted on 1/21/14)
Flavorful extract Review by Kyle

Overall, a really good extract kit. With 3 hop packages, this beer has a good balance of aroma, bitters, flavor, and finish. Would have liked the kit to include some spices as this is their "Christmas/winter ale". (Posted on 1/20/14)
Use the blowoff hose! Review by Michael

This was I think the fourth batch I've made from a NB kit. I'm happy with the flavor, color and texture, but I wanted to sound off and advise others that you definitely need to use the blowoff hose with this kit. I didn't need that on the prior NB kits I'd done, so I ignorned it here to my detriment. In less than a day even with the six gallon carboy the airlock was blasted out and I had wort working its way out the airlock. I quickly fixed up the blowoff hose and in the end no harm done (had the first bottled the other day and all's well), but a mess in the brewing room. Start off with a blowout hose and bucket and you'll be fine. (Posted on 1/20/14)
SO FAR GREAT Review by Timothy

My daughter bought me the deluxe starter kit. It came with this beer kit. My wife and I like to drink New Castle Brown. Guess thats why she got this beer kit. I have never brewed beer before. Since I like canning my deer and making pickles and salsa from my garden she thought I would probly like brewing my own beer. When cooking this on the stove the smell was great so I had to taste and the flavors where amazing.Today I bottled it all up and again had to taste it and the flavors really stand out in this brew. Going to let it condition for two weeks in the bottles. Again this brew tastes great and I will Be buying it again in the future. Now I'm tring my hand at some wine. What a great gift from my daughter. HOORAH my lovely Marine. Thanks (Posted on 1/20/14)
Solid Brown Ale, give it at least a month Review by Sean

This was my first kit and first attempt at brewing. Easy to follow instructions, simple enough to make, 2 weeks in primary, 2 weeks in secondary. After over a month in bottles its a really solid, sessionable brown ale after the bitterness gets mellowed out some. (Posted on 1/18/14)

Great for this newbie Review by Bryan

This was my first beer to brew. Hard for me to rate it as I'm so new, but the process was easy enough to follow and the beer turned out great. Two tips that helped me. First, blowout is necessary, even on a 6 gal carboy. Initial fermentation was very vigorous. Second, I did not put it in secondary per the instructions. Left in primary for four weeks, then conditioned in bottle for one week and tastes good! (Posted on 1/15/14)
