BLAINE, Minn. (Nov. 21, 2011) — In a few short months, the Minnesota Stars will be the first professional soccer club in the United States with its own beer, thanks to Northern Brewer Homebrew Supply. The Stars and the Roseville, Minn., based company announced Monday a partnership to develop a beer kit honoring the Stars 2011 North American Soccer League championship as the highlight to a partnership for the 2012 NASL season.

“There’s a camaraderie within the brewing community that’s a perfect parallel to the closeness among our supporters,” said Stars CEO Djorn Buchholz. “We’re excited to begin working with Northern Brewer to develop a homebrew kit that can help bring our fans together to enjoy the hobby as well as to reap the rewards, hopefully during tailgates at NSC Stadium in 2012.” The Stars and Northern Brewer will begin working right away to develop a homebrew kit to be sold in Northern Brewer stores and on its website, as well as in the Stars’ new online store.

Along the way, Northern Brewer and the team will document the kit’s evolution through various media. “Northern Brewer is excited to partner with the 2011 NASL Champions Minnesota Stars for the 2012 season. We're amazed at what the team has accomplished, and believe the spirit of DIY, David vs. Goliath, and grassroots effort are present in the MN Stars, just as they are in Northern Brewer. We hope to help build the momentum of the 2011 season for 2012, and look forward to tailgating with homebrew at games, collaborating on events, creating a MN Stars beer kit, and celebrating the beautiful game together.” Jake Keeler, Marketing Director The partnership will also bring appearance and event opportunities to both the Stars and Northern Brewer. Stars players and the Soccer Bowl trophy will be on site for autograph and photo opportunities on Saturday, Dec. 3, as Northern Brewer launches its new store at 60th St. and Lyndale Ave. in Minneapolis. Further information about the partnership, including events, appearances and promotions, will be released through both the Minnesota Stars and Northern Brewer’s media channels, including websites, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.

About Northern Brewer

Northern Brewer was founded by Chris Farley in 1993. Farley had spent some time in Scotland while studying overseas, enjoying the local beers, watching some football, and taking in the culture. Once returning he couldn't find the beers he wanted, so he began making them on his own. He would later open Northern Brewer's first store on St. Paul's historic Grand Ave. 18 years later, that little store still hums on Grand Ave., our Milwaukee WI location is two years old, and we now have a flagship store in Minneapolis. Along with three retail locations, Northern Brewer has a 36,000 sq. foot fulfillment facility and back office that supplies the entire country with homebrewing and home winemaking supplies. Today Northern Brewer has over 100 employees, supports and facilitates homebrewing/beer events around the country, and helps guide the future of this wonderful hobby. Northern Brewer has a simple belief: Brew, Share, Enjoy. Prost!
