The next step up from Dubbel in the monastic beer classification, Tripel is higher in alcohol than Dubbel but is actually lighter in color and body. The addition of clear candi sugar dilutes the malt bill, which helps preserve the golden color and makes the body deceptively light for a beer of this strength. Spicy and fruity with a gentle sweetness and hints of alcohol throughout leading to a dry and mildly bitter finish.

Wow - this thing goes

Kit arrived with the usual punctual and perfect NB service. Brewed it up and super high gravity - OG 1089. It blew the airlock cork out of the carboy even with a blow off tube! Wow - this thing really ferments. Using Omega Yeast Belgian Ale W OYL028 (2 pack). Smells great - can't wait. Expect it to finish around 10% abv. Tripel indeed!

Flavor is ok OG wasn't where I wanted it to be

OG was way off. I was probably more meticulous on this brew then I have ever been on anything else I have brewed. I really wanted it to be good. The OG came out at 1.054 was supposed to be 1.072 I believe. It went into the secondary yesterday and the flavor is ok but not what I was hoping for in a Belgian Triple.

Very pleased with Northern Brewers

It is currently in the secondary fermenter and I'm looking forward to hopefully having it completed by Superbowl Sunday. I used dark Belgium candy sugar in this batch with an extra pound of DME. I'm currently deployed in South Asia so if you want beer you have to make it yourself.
