Unleash an explosion of flavors with the Depth Charge® Stainless Steel Infuser (Patent Pending) for Big Mouth Bubbler®. Easy to clean and sanitize, the stainless steel mesh delivers a blast of dry hops, fruit, oak chips, or spices directly into your beer or wine while minimizing the mess. Easily control flavorings to maximize their punch, without the risk of over-extraction.

Note: Big Mouth Bubbler® fermenter is not included.

The Depth Charge® is a great addition to the Big Mouth Bubbler® arsenal. And it's designed for both plastic and glass.

The unique design allows the mesh basket to be removed at any time, perfect for creating a custom flavor schedule and the removal of nearly all trub material before racking. Never worry about floating specks in your bottles or clogged keg dip tubes ever again. A custom punch-down tool enables regular agitation of the flavorings and helps squeeze every tasty drop from the infuser, without disturbing the rest of the batch. Less wasted beer and wine. More flavor and experimentation. Any infusion you can think of.

Drop the Depth Charge into your next batch.

Best new gadget for my brewery

I’ve been using the big mouth bubbler for years, primarily because it’s lightweight and safer than glass carboys, but also easier to dry hop and clean. The depth charge is a great improvement. I recently made Dragons Silk Stout and it was so easy and convenient to add wood cubes, vanilla beans, and coffee beans to the depth charge. I mess and no wasted beer.

Great item

Great quality!
It was easy to use and made it simple to infuse my fruit and spices into the cider and be able to remove the fruit when done. We put it in and used the harness to keep in place.
We are making mead now and using it again.

Dry hop help?

This was my first attempt at dry hopping and my first use of the 6.5 gallon Big Mouth Bubbler, siphonless, plastic carboy. Given that scenario, the Depth Charge Dry Hop Filter seemed like the perfect accessory. I chose to dry hop before the secondary fermenter but after really active bubbling had ceased in the primary. The beer is now in the secondary so I won’t know for a month or so, if this technique will work. The DC got the job done, using home-grown, whole hops.

The issue I had, which other reviews have addressed, is that the DC lid, which does hold the screen just fine, and the silicone seal ring around the base of the lid, DID NOT stay in place. There was still enough pressure in the carboy to gradually force the lid up.

This seems like a real design flaw to me. The black plastic lid appeared to be too flexible, and in combination with a very soft silicone ring, just wasn’t satisfactory. I understand that the harness/ carrying strap that comes with the Big Mouth Bubbler is supposed to address this issue but it just doesn’t facilitate adding or agitating the hops.

I’d suggest a match harder, less flexible plastic lid in conjunction with a stiffer seal ring, that would possibly stay in place.

The Depth Charge filter otherwise is well manufactured and of very good quality. I would recommend it if the lid issue is resolved.
