Cascade Hops

Cascade: the hop that started it all. Bred in Oregon, Cascade helped define American craft beer with its iconic grapefruit and floral aroma. It's perfect for late-boil additions or dry hopping when you want a bright, classic American hop profile. Cascade pairs well with other citrus-forward hops like Centennial or Mosaic and shines in single-hop pale ales.

Cascade Hops Overview

  • Flavors: Citrus, grapefruit, floral, spice
  • Primary Usage: Flavor & Aroma (also works for bitterness)
  • Best Beer Styles: American Pale Ale, Amber Ale, American IPA, American Wheat Ale
  • Similar Varieties: Centennial, Amarillo, Columbus, Ahtanum

Background

Cascade was developed in the 1950s by the USDA breeding program in Oregon and released commercially in 1972. It was the first hop widely adopted by American craft brewers, largely due to its use in Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Its bright, floral, and citrusy profile helped establish the identity of American-style ales and continues to be one of the most used aroma hops in the world.
