It works for the price point. It’s an economy model burner. It’s built well but has flaws. It’ll take a few boils to burn the paint off before the smell goes away and the circular base it difficult to shim on an uneven floor to make whirpooling effective but it will boil 8 gallons in 15 minutes. I use this when I need to heat a few gallons. If you are doing 10 gal batches get the edelmetall, that burner is sick
I bought this burner to both graduate to all-grain brewing and also move out of the kitchen before my wife wrings my neck. Now any messes are on the back patio. ;)
I was very happy with how quickly having 65k BTUs brought strike and sparge water up to temperature and boiling the wort was pretty fast too.
The only negative thing I can say about the burner is the same others noticed. It is a shame that the beautiful stenciling of Dark Star 2.0 on the wind shield burned off right away. The black paint on the tips of the burner grill right above the fire burned off too. But I don't consider this a big deal because I didn't buy the burner to look at it, and the performance for the price is a good deal.
Got 2.5 gallons to a boil in half the time of my kitchen’s gas range. The flame is easy to control and the unit cleans easily enough. Some of the paint will burn off on the first use so I recommend doing a dry run a couple of days before brew day to get that out of the way.
I can heat my water for my mash in under 30 minutes now. Hugeeeee time saver.
Absolutely loved my first Brew with this! Easy to control the flame and very stable with my kettle!
