Product details

Think of this as a British Bitter squared - more malt and more hops equals higher gravity, bigger body, more bitterness, and more intense flavors and aromas. A more complex beer than an "ordinary" low-gravity bitter, an ESB is a showcase for high-quality hops and brewing skill, meant to be enjoyed with consideration rather than merely quaffed. Our kit pours with a rich red color and white head and pronounced aromas of hop and fruit.

Great kit — all that’s missing is a gravity-pull cask to feel like I’m drinking Real Ale in an English pub.

The order came quickly and the batch tastes great. What else can you ask for?

Great recipe

I’ve brewed a number of ESB recipes and this one is the best so far. I profiled this one to be dry/bitter and it came out perfect having a nice malt beginning with a dry hop finish. I used Imperial A09 Pub yeast which cleaned up excellent leaving a very clean and clear pint. If you like English pale ales and are looking for an elevated version of those this kit delivers on that.

British Bitter

The bitter is a little hazier than I expected- but I like it. I did a 10gal batch and split fermentation into two carboys. At the end of the first week I cold-steeped the chocolate grains for 24hrs and then added it to one carboy. I ended up with two nice beers that don’t seem to be related.
