Northern Brewer Yeast Starter Kit - 2000 ml
A yeast starter is one of the easiest and most dramatic ways to improve the quality of your homebrewed beer. A single pack of yeast often does not contain enough cells to ferment a beer properly - especially higher-gravity beers and lagers. Use this yeast starter kit to grow your yeast cell count to the proper pitch rate. Achieve the ideal attenuation in your brews.
Propagating a single pack of yeast using our yeast starter kit exponentially increases the number of cells you pitch. With a higher pitching rate, you will see a shorter lag phase, lower amounts of fermentation-related off-flavors, and less incidence of bacterial contamination in your homebrewed beer.
Preparing a yeast starter is easy - you mix a very small batch of malt extract wort (without hops), briefly boil and chill it, then ferment it in a flask a day or two before brewing the main batch. The yeast cells from a single pack of yeast will reproduce in the starter, increasing in number from a few dozen billion cells to hundreds of billions.
The 2000 ml yeast starter kit is preferred for large starters for lagers, strong beers, and 10 gallon batches of homebrew. It features a heat-resistant borosilicate glass flask, which allows you to boil, cool, and ferment the starter wort in the same vessel. Also includes a foam stopper, one pound of DME, and complete instructions.
I got nervous when 48 hours passed with no activity. Emailed Northern Brewer of my concern and was told to be patient, may take 72 hours to begin. Activity began at approximately 68 hours, and kept on for approximately 5 days. Will definitely continue using this method.
Used it once so far but definitely the most vigorous fermentation I've had. Waiting to taste the final product
Perfect. I have used 2quart jars in the past and this is very easy especially the foam stopper. I already plan to order more DME.
I still haven't used them but plat to brew this weekend hopefully then I can use one
This yeast starter kit is great. Works perfectly for a nice starter to get your brew fermenting good!
