Just the hydrometer I needed

I needed a hydrometer with an expanded scale to measure wine as fermentation approaches fully dry. My refractometer is sufficient for starting fermentation but despite the alcohol corrections available for a refractometer I've found it confusing sometimes. I've had a completely dry wine (by taste) refract at 10 Brix, which corrects to 1.3 Brix for alcohol, not the reading one expects. But this hydrometer measured it at 0.990, which was as expected. It also looks as if it's been beefed up where the bulb tapers into the scale, a weak point noted by others.

Good Value for the Money

I'm quite satisfied with this product. It was one point low when i calibrated it, but it is a simple fix to add one point to the measurement. Much better resolution than trying to use my big hydrometer to take finishing readings.

Works well after calibration

The first thing I did was test this in water, it read .997. So now i just add.003 to all readings. The scale is much easier to read the final gravity on my cider along with back sweetening.
