Product details

This Hop Spider keeps hops together during the boil. It can be used on all appropriate sized boil pots, including the Grainfather.

Made with a coarser, 800-micron 304-grade stainless steel mesh, for maximum wort flow and increased hop utilization.

Although it is not a necessity in brewing with the Grainfather brewing system, it is a popular product. This has therefore been designed with a specifically fitted hook design that can be hooked onto the side of any brew pot or the Grainfather support ring. Perfect for those of you who would like the reassurance of a hop spider when brewing.

This spider can be used for any kind of hops, including hop pellets.

hop spider kind of works

the biggest problem with the hop spider is its not long enough to be immerse in the grainfather 30 when only boiling 3-5 gallons of wort. I had to use some string to get it low enough to get in the wort.

Hop spider filter

800 micron s.s. mesh screen basket filter. Aprox. 12in. length X 6 in. diameter. Good at filtering wort into fermenting bucket. And filtering fermentation into bottling bucket.

Big

This thing is a lot bigger than I thought. I used it and works well. My wort is much cleaner than in the past.

Well built, but needed to tweak for use.

This hop spider is solidly built. The hook, however, is even with the top lip of the basket, which makes it challenging to use unless there is a large volume of wort in my kettle (to bring the level up to the top). To be fair, I am not using this with the Grainfather, but the Anvil Foundry. To fix this, I made a loop of twine to hang the spider from and tied off to the handle on the side. The larger mesh allowed for decent flow of the wort through the spider, but was fine enough to keep the hops contained. I did feel like maybe I didn't get the same utilization from the hops as I normally do without the spider, but it wasn't too significant of a change. It was easy to rinse clean as well.

Works as you'd expect

Mesh seems to be the right size to still allow decent wort flow in/out of the spider. Solid construction and easy clean up.
