Product details

Some Scottish historians theorize that Charles Stuart didn't flee Scotland after the failed 1745 uprising; instead, he had a few too many Wee Heavies in the Outer Hebrides and then just sort of woke up in France. History may keep her secrets, but you can share the experience of a Wee Heavy. There's a little Jacobite Revolution in every bottle. These are the very strongest of all Scottish ales, with a garnet-brown hue, profound maltiness and high alcohol content. Our Wee Heavy showcases complex toffee and vinous notes and a restrained hop character. Best imbibed in small doses, this kit continues to develop with age and is great for cellaring.

Due to the high starting gravity of this kit, we recommend pitching multiple packs of yeast or preparing a yeast starter for best results.

Awesome beer!

I've made this kit three times now, and each time it seems to get just a little bit better. One of my favorite brews, I get lots of compliments from my buddies.... You will too.

Scottish Wee Heavy

I did mix this up a little bit with the addition of 1# of flaked oats and # of Briess Special Malt using Scottish Yeast from Crossmyloof from UK. I then barrel aged in a 5 gallon bourbon barrel that I had soaked with a bit of Rum Raisin looking for a deeper flavor. Bottle up, carbonated perfectly, beautiful long lasting head, nice lacing on the glass as I enjoyed. This is a keeper and will only get better after bottle conditioning.
