SMASH American Session Ale Extract Beer Recipe Kit
Is it a half IPA? Is it a pale ale? What's in a name, after all? We're taking you back to school, back to basics, with this SMASH (single-malt, single-hop)-style delight. At the same time, we're hitting the latest in style-confounding marketing-speak: American Session Ale.
SMASH is about taking things back, way back, to when American Pale Ale was edgy and new. The thing is, time travel is hard, and we're thinking there's enough Cascade-only pale stuff out there, so we're using a decidedly new-school single hop: Simcoe.
The pine and jungle stinker herself, Simcoe is boastful and bombastic, packing tons of hop flavor and aroma into a neat little package. To showcase all of these attributes, this SMASH recipe kit contains the freshest, premium ingredients for a clean, dry malt base, with a low gravity for extra drinkability, and a healthy dose of delicious hoppiness. Think of it as a way to deliver a metric hogshead of hop flavor and aroma in a tidy 4.5% ABV package.

I like the flavor and low alcohol content. Easy to brew, chose to use US-05. Took a couple of days to carb up but when it did it was fine.
It’s my go to beer to keep around in my keg for a refreshing beer after work.
Low alcohol with a hoppy taste.
Love this brew. Better hop/malt balance than All Day IPA. Hoppiness comes through without the hop bite. I enjoy the lower alcohol content so I can drink it more often and for longer periods of time.
Purchased a second kit because the price is superb, but I'm going to add in some Nelson Sauvin hops along with the Simcoe. Hoping for a wicked good brew!
This kit is so simple. When I first opened and read the directions my thought was, "oh boy, not much to this." I didn't have a secondary ferment tank available when it was time for dry hopping so they went right into the primary. I got it in the keg very nearly at the two week mark. I was so pleased with the end result. This was a deliciously hopped crisp pale ale that everyone in the family loved. ABV under 5%, so a second pour is not a problem. We enjoyed this pale ale and it is so quick and simple to a good outcome that I have my second batch fermenting now. Thanks Northern Brewer for a wonderful product.
