Product details

Move over, mulled wine. This spiced Scottish-style ale delivers an abundance of holiday cheer. A medium-bodied, malty, clean ale provides the perfect base for a complex blend of spices guaranteed to warm your spirit.

Before hops became the conventional flavoring for beer, medieval European brewers used proprietary spice mixtures, and many modern breweries still use a blend of spices along with hops for seasonally-brewed holiday beers. In this recipe kit, we started with a Scottish-style ale and added a blend of spices and quality ingredients to create a delightfully sippable beer with a sweet, exotic spice character reminiscent of mulled wine.

Spiced Winter Ale

I added a couple of apples to it (during the boil) and it turned out very good.

Christmas in a glass!

My first all grain brew. Really liked the quality of the ingredients. The spices complimented it very well. I used the whole packet and did not find it overwhelming. Came out to 5.4abv in 1 week using fermzilla. New family favorite for the holidays! Thanks Northern Brewer!

Hit all targets but little harsh

Spice was perfect, did half at boil and half in secondary. But base is a bit harsh. Probably won't make again

Yeast was bad

I got this with the wyeast 1728, the smack pack did not swell nor did it show activity when I made a starter. I ended up having to use a packet of s-04. Other than that the beer was good as expected.
