Product details

An assertive black ale dominated by roast-coffee and chocolate character and hop bitterness. Northern Brewer's hometown gives its name to our robust porter kit - an assertive black ale dominated by roast-coffee and chocolate character and hop bitterness. Toffee-like maltiness and citrusy hop flavor are in there as well, with a medium-full body and lingering roast malt/hop bitterness before a bittersweet finish. We like spiking barbecue sauce with a splash of this porter; it also great with strong cheese like sharp cheddar or Stilton.

A little watery

Don't get me wrong, this came out great, but the body and flavor seem to be just a little watered-down compared to when I made this with extract instead of grain. Probably some error on my part. Still has a nice coffee-chocolate flavor like its extract cousin. I will certainly enjoy going through this keg.

Added coconut

I added coconut and this come out good a great beer The stock recipe was very good and with the coconut he comes out even better I think

St. Paul Porter (All Grain)

My wife (who loves porters and stouts) and I visited 12 breweries in 3 days in Asheville. She says my home brewed St. Paul Porter (All Grain) is better than any of the beers she tried at the breweries. I accused her of being awfully sweet, but she swears by her statement. My go-to is Dead Ringer IPA. I have the Czech Pilsner in the fermentor. I keg all of my brews.

St. Paul Porter

Like this one! Have brewed this recipe several times now and I will definitely brew again. I keep 4 taps going and I like to have something dark (Stout/Porter) and an IPA on tap as go to brews and rotate a variety of beers on the other two taps. St. Paul porter is one that is often there.
