Vintner's Best® Fruit Wine Bases are all-natural and made with real fruit juice. They are blended from the same formulations used by commercial wineries and allow you to avoid straining out the fruit pieces. Vintner's Best® Fruit Wine bases make 5 gallons of high-quality fruit wine at around 10% ABV. Easy, convenient re-sealable packaging with no pH or acid adjustments allows you to scale depending on your batch size. All you have to do is add yeast and water.

A blend of juice concentrates, corn syrup, citric acid and natural flavor designed to make a fermentable base for a perry or pear wine blend at 18.6 Brix. The product is blended, pasteurized and can be stored at ambient temperature.

Recommended Yeast: Lalvin K1V-1116 or Red Star Premier Classique

Makes a decent batch of perry

A friend asked me to make them a batch of pear cider. I settled on this product for the base because five gallons of pear juice would have run about US$160.00. And it worked well enough. My only real complaint is that it didn't say anywhere in the online description, so far as I could see, that the fruit concentrate in it contained both pear and apple juices. I found that info on the bottle label when it arrived. So minus a star for that. But most commercial perry has apple juice in it as well, so I went ahead with the project. Made just over 5 gallons, and it came in at just over 10% ABV at a final gravity of 1.000. At that point, I added corn sugar and bottled it. It does not need back-sweetening with a nonfermentable sugar like xylitol. Tastes like pears. I would use this and its related products as a cider base again, but probably make 6 gallons to bring the ABV down into normal cider range.
