I got great efficiency and a wonderfully rich and characterful smash single grain ale.
This malt has more flavor than any other 2-row barley. I use at least 10 pounds as a base for my stouts to give the beer more flavor because nobody wants a wimpy stout. I also like a few pounds in a Belgian Witbier to punch up the wheat flavor. Brewdog333
I’ve been brewing on the same system for over seven years and never had a stuck sparge...until I used this malt. It also produced a huge amount of gunky hot break, which resembled chocolate pudding. The resultant wort was also extremely cloudy. The beer, an ESB, may turn out OK, but unless it’s life altering, I’m going back to Golden Promise and/or a Maris Otter variety that’s been kilned using more more modern technology. Very disappointing. That said, Northern Brewer’s customer service, etc. was great.
