Product details

Minnesotans know more about keeping warm than just about anybody in the world. Our secret? It's in the beer.

This Winter Warmer starts big and malty with a full body and spicy English hop profile. The flavor is complex malt with fruit, burnt caramel, and subtle chocolate, finishing sweet with a warming alcohol note. Similar to our Wee Heavy and Barley Wine kits, the Winter Warmer increases in complexity with age. A bottle makes a great stocking stuffer!

Due to the high starting gravity of this kit, we recommend pitching multiple packs of yeast or preparing a yeast starter for best results.

Love it! I mistakenly underestimated the alcohol content of this recipe…..be careful drinking it on an empty stomach. I was happily surprised when I did the gravity reading before storing it away for fermentation…..came out to roughly 7.5 - 8%. Yummy!

Winter Warmer

I did this as a split batch with an English yeast for one half and a Belgian yeast for the other half. I think this would make a nice base to do some experimenting. I didn't get any hints of spice in the English one. It had lots of body and was easy to drink. The Belgian one had good spice that complimented the beer, but I'm thinking it all came from the yeast. The alcohol was lower than I expected for a winter warmer. Overall, both versions are enjoyable and nice for this time of year. I'm interested to see how they taste after they have aged a little longer.

Good - I think some clarity is needed

Great beer - I think some clarity is needed in the application of priming sugar. Specifically, I think it is strange to use volumetric measurements for most any thing and would encourage the designers of the recipes to be consistent in offering weight measurements in grams preferably.

Winter warmer review

Have not tried kit yet, but can say it looks complete as described and received in a timely manner. Will follow up after tasting. Gave kit a 4 because haven't tried it yet.
