The Best Part: Choose Your Recipe
Caribou Slobber Brown Ale - Like your brews tall, dark and drinkable? Then try Caribou Slobber Brown Ale. Perfect for fans of substantial craft beer, this ale is full-bodied and smooth, deliciously dark without a hint of bitterness. Guaranteed to become your new favorite session beer. Irish Red Ale - If you're looking for a perfectly-balanced, crowd-pleasing pint, you can't go wrong with our Irish Red Ale. There's a reason this kit is our best-seller. Actually, three reasons: great, medium-bodied taste, rich coppery color and enticingly low aging requirements. View recipe Instructions
American Wheat - Like their German cousins, American wheat beers feature large proportions of malted wheat in the grain bill and are naturally a bit cloudy in appearance. Unlike German Hefe Weizen, though, American wheat beers have a bit more hop character and are fermented with a milder-tasting yeast, resulting in a more clean, neutral finish. With a spicy noble hop aroma and tart finish, it's a spritzy, refreshing crowd-pleaser. View recipe Instructions
Smashing Pumpkin Ale -This spiced Amber Ale is infused with nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. The spices mingle with sweet, toasty malt to frame an intensely flavorful brew. And just like it's big brother, you can add real pumpkin to this recipe for a truly smashing, pumpkin ale - just add an extra pound of 6-row and a large straining bag to your order. It's outside the ordinary, delicious, and most of all fun. View recipe Instructions

This is a great starter kit! My first attempt at brewing and the beer turned out great. I went for the Caribou Slobber and it turned out much, much better than I was anticipating - very happy.
If you’re a total beginner, I’d recommend buying a few extras:
- Cleaning brush (for fermenter)
- 2 gallon boiling container/kettle
- Stainless stirring spoon
- Regular 1 gallon jug for mixing sanitizer and cleaning
- Extra sanitizer
I used regular beer bottles I’d kept and cleaned, but also bought extra bottle caps and another 1 gallon recipe kit to try.
One thing to note - the racking cane/siphon provided in the kit didn’t work. The hose wasn’t long enough and the siphon just didn’t work properly - that was the only let down/frustration. I thought it was me operating it incorrectly as a newbie, but I went to a local beer supply store and bought a mini-siphon (Fermtech) and longer tube (about $8 all in), and it worked 100x better.
All in though, a great kit and can't wait to brew more beers!
The siphon is not the greatest but the beer is good and the joy of making it is worth it.
For me, this is a very hearty but smooth tasting brown ale. This was my first beer brewing experience in about 40 years and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. It does have a head when poured but the foam had such large bubbles that it dissipated rather quickly even after 18 days aging in the bottle. Really like the taste but can use some help on creating a longer lasting head.
This kit contained everything I needed and came with simple, easy to follow instructions. Great results for a first time brew and a good beer at the end.
Easy instructions and good beer, the siphon didn’t work very well.
