Product details

Brew up a batch of our Bavarian Hefeweizen, and you'll feel the call of a traditional Bier Hall in every bottle. This foolproof beer recipe kit yields a medium-bodied, effervescent ale practically exploding with yeast and wheat malt character, kind of like a liquid multi-grain bread. A shining, hand-crafted example of Bavaria's signature brew.

The Bavarian Hefeweizen recipe kit contains all the ingredients you need for a 100% traditional, cloudy, malty, and spicy brew, with a smooth mouthfeel and dense, whipped-cream head. Serve in a tall glass "mit hefe" and swirl the bottle to make sure you get all the yeast!

A Pumpkin Hefeweizen for the holiday.

Gad an idea to use a Hefeweizen as a vase for a pumpkin bear. Used about 1 lb of roaster pumpkin and sone pie spice. Exceeded all expectations. Beer was clean with just the right gaze. Excellent kit, made for a great brew.

Good simple brew!

The grain seemed very fresh and was nicely milled as per usual with Northern Brewer, no complaints at all. Nice traditional hefe grain bill and hops. I did a bog standard brew in a bag process using the temps in the instructions and pitched a tube of White Labs WLP300. Fermented in the ~70F basement for two weeks, bottle conditioned for a week, and stuck it in the fridge. A few notes:

-Didn't know this going in but it seems common across hefeweizen yeast strains.. STRONG sulfur smell during first 4 days of fermentation. Straight up egg factory stank. Went away and wasn't present in the final beer thankfully. If you're using a hefe yeast just be prepared for that. It's worth it for the spicy banana esters though!

-Extremely cloudy. I'd throw in a whirlfloc tablet if I brewed it again. Wheat base beers are always going to be cloudy but this was straight up opaque. Might even double up with a protein rest.

-When you drink it, swirl the yeast up with the last bit in your bottle and pour it into your glass. You want that flavor in this brew - just try it. Happy brewing!
