Product details

This mead making kit features elements of a sweet late-harvest red wine or ruby port mixed in with the floral high notes of wildflower honey.

Another Curt and Kathy creation, this melomel also uses a sweet mead for a base, but adds blackberry puree instead of raspberry during secondary fermentation. This adds tannin as well as acid into the flavor complex; combined with the deeper color of the fruit, this melomel has elements of a sweet late-harvest red wine or ruby port mixed in with the floral high notes of wildflower honey.

Blackberry Mead Kit

The kit was very easy to use. Everything was included except sparkalloid. The directions were specific enough so no troubles. The mead is in the secondary waiting to be racked into bottles. Good value!

The best of the 2 meads that Curt & Kathy offer in my opinion.

After completing the blackberry Melomel Mead I shared most of my batch with friends and family. The feed back was very gratifying and positive.
Everybody enjoyed !

I made this 10 months ago and just taste blah.

This is my first mead so I followed directions exactly as provided by NB. It’s been 10 months in the bottle now and it just doesn’t have much of Blackberry taste at all. Just taste like sweet honey water to me with maybe a hint of blackberries. Needless To say I’m pretty disappointed with the results. I did ferment it out dry FG .990 and it’s around 14% alcohol but i thought the blackberry purée would add some sweetness to it and flavor, it did not. I think the only way to make this is to use a different yeast so it won’t ferment out the way like D-47 And/Or BackSweeten it with honey and blackberries of some kind. I have made plenty of beer and wines so I do understand how the process works. I’ll just let it sit and hopefully it will get better in a few more months. Im definitely thinking the people who gave this a 5 star rating must have backsweeten the mead.

First try

The directions were easy to follow. The result so far is really nice. I would suggest that a greater emphasis be placed on the high level of cleanliness required for success. I had the assistance of someone who had experience, so my batch is fine, but I never would have understood it from just the included directions.

Great Kit, easy to make, requires patiences

Quite easy to make vs beer. I would say that it does really need a year to age before it hits it's prime.
