Product details

Northern Brewer's Briess Traditional Dark malt syrup is a blend of pale malt with some caramel 60, Munich, and black malt. It creates a dark wort with a smooth taste, suitable for Porters, Stouts, and all other dark beer styles.

Approximately 30º Lovibond, 1.036 ppg. Our malt jugs are made from BPA-free plastic.

Northern Brewer's Briess Malt Syrups are some of the freshest malt extracts you can buy. Our high rate of turnover -- we package and sell hundreds of gallons every day -- means that the syrup you receive won't have been sitting on the shelf for months. Fresh malt extract makes better beer!

The first batch in a while

I found you guys on line after my local brewing shop closed last year (2023 actually). Placed an order for a recipe for a holiday ale, including both liquid and dry malt. Everything came quickly, but one dry malt bag developed a hole which covered everything in malt dust, which to be fair was a bit of a pain… but no big deal, perhaps a 10% loss from a one pound bag. I informed you guys and was offered replacement but that was not necessary, so you offered my a discount on the next order. This was appreciated. The liquid malt was easily extracted from packaging using a simple warming bath. The batch fermented primarily quite vigorously, eventually slowing, finally bottled at day 23. Initial sg 1.086, final sg 1.013, so I did not need to pitch the secondary champagne yeast, the yeast you supplied was great in surviving the relatively high alcohol environment…. Now it is sitting bottled, the first of which will be opened late October. The intention is to have it available for the Thanksgiving/Christmas timeframe. The spice component, including clove, allspice, orange peel, anise, cinnamon bark, and cardamom (after bottle conditioning and aging), allows the brew to take on a gingerbread beer quality. Quite delightful! Of course, until it is tasted, one just does not know for sure…. I will be brewing another batch soon, plan to use your services. Thanks!

Briess Dark Malt Extract Syrup

I ordered Briess Dark Malt Extract Syrup (LME), it is good for baking rye sourdough bread. It is easier to work with than grains that need to be ground.
