Product details

A multiple gold medal winner at the Colorado State Fair, this decadent vanilla porter is sure to raise eyebrows. A rich, smooth porter with hints of rum and molasses behind a coffee-like roasted character, then infused with fragrant vanilla. The final pint emanates a heady vanilla perfume and makes for both a wonderful after-dinner drink or the ultimate ice cream float.

Dry Dock Brewing Company of Aurora CO is one of the hottest up and coming breweries in the US. In the 6 years that it has been open, it has racked up more than a dozen World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival medals, including Small Brewing Company of the Year. But to try one of their amazing brews, you have to live in the tiny section of Colorado they cater to. Good thing for the rest of us Dry Dock has worked closely with Northern Brewer to develop these Pro-Series beer kits. We've sourced the same ingredients and kept all the recipe particulars the same, just scaled down to your home-brewery. Enjoy!

This is a partial mash beer kit - see our Partial Mash Walkthrough for details.

In addition to the equipment required for malt extract brewing (boiling kettle, primary fermenter, siphon, etc.), you will need the following to brew our partial mash kits:

  • A thermometer with a range that includes 120°-170°F
  • A mash kettle - a pot with a capacity of at least 4 gallons (the boiling kettle you already have can do double duty)
  • A second pot or kettle with a capacity of at least 2 gallons for heating sparge water
  • A large strainer or a nylon mesh bag that can hold up to 5 pounds of wet grain (used to separate the grain from the mash liquid in Step #8)

Due to the high starting gravity of this kit, we recommend pitching multiple packs of yeast or preparing a yeast starter for best results.

An Awesome Porter!

This was a good one. My only mod to the recipe was adding a bit of extra vanilla extract after fermentation. This one came out creamy, smooth and almost like a dark chocolate.
I love Porters and this was a winner! Racked some to a mini ( 1gal) keg and bottled the rest. After letting it sit a few days, starting drinking the kegged stuff. I finished it off in a week! It was great! Popped one of the bottkes today and it was good with a nice creamy head, but will wait a couple of weeks and try another. Will do this one again!

By far one of the best porters I’ve ever had

I typically gravitate towards IPAs, but this Porter was exceptionally smooth and rich in flavor. I’d definitely brew it again.

No more real vanilla beans

I made this outstanding porter a few years ago and the kit included read vanilla beans that you added during fermentation. Now there is a vanilla powder that you add during bottling. My beer is bottle conditioning now and tasted very good when it was ‘fresh’. I’ll be saving this for the fall when it’s cooler again.
