Product details

With the WiFi-enabled Inkbird controller, you can monitor your fermentation temperature from virtually anywhere with an internet connection. Adjust settings with your mobile device and receive push notifications from the free companion app, InkbirdSmart, available for both iOS and Android. The app also collects data from the controller and displays the information as a daily graph of your fermentation's temperature activity.

The Inkbird dual stage temperature controller is an easy to use and economical controller that is perfect for home brewing. Inkbird controllers allow you to control both heating and cooling, and set independent differentials for each to keep the exact temperature you need.  Aside from brewing uses, this is a great dual relay output temperature controller for cooking (use in a smoker or BBQ), home growing (heat mats for seedlings, climate control), or any other DIY project you come up with!

Note this controller will only work with 2.4 GHz WiFi routers.

The InkBird Controller Does the Job

This Dual Stage WiFi temp controller by InkBird is a fantastic product, and it works great for what I needed to do. I got this product in conjunction with the FermoTemp - Electric Fermentation Heat Wrap to regulate the fermentation temperature of a batch of "Dragon's Silk Stout." I do my fermentation in the basement, and that stays around 60 degrees in the winter. The recommended temperature for this beer, according to the recipe and expert advice from NorthernBrewer staff, is 66 to 68 degrees. Using the InkBird and the heat wrap together, I can dial that in. The app works great, and I can monitor the current temperature from anywhere. I have it set to start heating when there is ONE degree of Fahrenheit change. It heats to the programmed temp, and then stops heating. You can see, to a tenth of a degree, what the temperature is in the fermenter. When it drops to the one full degree difference, it starts heating again. There is an LED on the box that is supposed to show when it is heating or cooling. I've noticed that this does not always come on when it is being controlled by the app. It almost always comes on if you adjust it from the box itself.

Another thing to note is that you will need a dual port stopper for your fermenter. You might also want a thermowell. I got the stopper from Northern Brewer (the orange dual port Standard Carboy Cap for 3/5/6/6.5 gallon glass carboys) - but I had problems with it. It was not completely airtight. However, that may have been my setup. I switched to a real rubber stopper with ports for both a stainless steel thermowell and my airlock. Northern Brewer doesn't sell this (that I could find), so I had to get it on ...um... Amazon. When I switched to the rubber stopper version, everything sealed up nicely. I will try the orange Northern Brewer one again on my next batch to see if I just had a bad seal.

I have not used the cooling function, but I'm confident that it would work the same.

All in all, a great product and as always, great service from Northern Brewer.

Only 4 Stars cuz I haven't unboxed it yet.

Only 4 Stars cuz I haven't unboxed it yet. Thought my old temp controller was broken, but it's not, so I haven't had a need to break in the new one,
