Product details

A strain for the traditional top-fermenting style from Düsseldorf. Alt was considered the "old" style from before the advent of bottom-fermenting lager yeasts. This top cropping yeast strain from Germany with clean flavor profile and broad fermentation range. Beers mature rapidly, even when cold fermentation is used. Low or no detectable diacetyl.

*NOTE:*During summer months, we include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeast orders. However, it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will stay frozen given transit times and particularly hot temperatures. For this reason, we recommend ordering dry yeast during summer months.

omega yeast OYL-001 alt

Brewing a German alt and created a 1 litre starter with Omega OYL-001. This yeast ferments at a temp of 55-66 degrees f., which is lower than I am use to. It is in the fermenter at 62 degrees and has create a nice krausen so far. Happy so far with yeast, and Omega's pack was very easy to work with.

Hi.
I ordered the Duck Duck Gose kit along with the Omega yeast. The yeast and lacto arrived quite warm, with a melted freeze pack. Is dry ice not an option?
Once I brewed, visible fermentation took about 36 hours and lasted several days. The aroma from the airlock was sour, but very sewage-y. Might be normal, this is my first kettle sour. The sewage smell is mostly gone, but may be because primary fermentation is over. I'm racking next week. I'll know then if the batch is bad.
So the three stars is because I won't know till next week if my batch is ruined. I'm surprised how long it took to deliver a package from Roseville to Farmington. As i recall correctly it took 5 days?
I've always appreciated NB's support and advice. Unfortunately, the availability of that support has eroded over the last year or so.
