Product details

Use your deductive powers to uncover a refreshing, easy drinking brown ale. You may observe a creamy biscuit, caramel, and toasty spice flavor, while an earthy cocoa and light hop character dominate the aroma. As you delve deeper, a light spice from the rye malt lurking in the shadows may reveal itself to you. Deceptively light in body, covertly big on flavor, and it only available from Northern Brewer.

Private Rye

It is hard to give an accurate yes or no yet of the taste as we let it ferment for a minimum of weeks and then let the bottles condition for a minimum 2 months. Time will tell.

Why isn't there an extract kit for rye ale? Results are more consistent.

Pretty tasty

My first yeast that came with the pack didn't work so I bought another pack and after letting it ferment and bottle and carbonate it was very delicious

Hollow, Thin

Mashed this with a Grainfather and used Safale S05 yeast on a starter. OG was 1.052 (brewhouse efficiency 72%) and attenuation was 79%. Fermented @ 66°F for 10 days, transferred to a secondary for 9 days and then kegged. More brown in color than amber. Moderate toast taste and nice, long-lasting bitterness, but there's no "core." It tastes hollow or "thin." Needs more body to be really appealing.

Great Brew

By far my favorite recipe ever. I have friends that say it is awesome (even my preacher and his wife!)
