Product details

Add to the flask when propagating yeast on a stir plate. Can be boiled in the flask along with starter wort. Always a good idea to have spares on hand in case you pour the stir bar into the fermenter along with the starter! 50 mm size is best for 2000 or 5000 ml flasks.

not best design - too simple

This came with my Maelstrom Stir Plate. When I first tested it, seemed to work ok in 2L flask with water - nice vortex & good startup. Once I started to use in viscous starters, all sorts of issues: bounce around, not startup without moving the flask around etc.
I found a much better stir bar, designed with a pivot ring in the center. This starts up with ease, and also spins more quietly. Also important to get right size. 45mm works well for 1L/2L flasks, and a 70mm stir bar works great for the 5L flask.

Great for large flasks but....

I have only used it twice so far and it's worked but because of its size it gets thrown off the magnet a lot. I'm sure there is a trick to it but it's mildly annoying having to reset the magnet bunch of times while stirring a yeast starter

great stir bar

used the one that came with my maelstrom stir plate and found that I needed a bigger one. this is perfect for my 1 gallon starter.

Doesn't work

I lost my round 25mm stir bar so I went to the LHB shop to replace it. I've been having the same problems everyone else has been having with this item, so I'll be ordering the round 25mm ones with my next batch.
