A note on yeast: Tallgrass uses White Labs WLP007 Dry English Ale; with Tallgrassblessing, we suggest Wyeast 1098 as the default option so customers (especially mail order customers) can more easily evaluate viability before brewing.
We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts, but it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

I usually go with ipa this was nice switch also helped with some acid reflux i was having. Considering doing a coffee milk stout after this. I only used half pound lactose came with kit. Cause well milk products gives me shits. Turned out good though was worth it even morning after. I would brew this again. I used dry yeast option brewers edge mash boil not chiller just cold water bath over night. Drop dry yeast in fermenter. Keg an force carbonate day 14. Drink day 15
This is by far one of my favorite beers to brew. Also, prefer going all grain vs. the partial mash kit - partial mash is about the same amount of work and equipment to use and clean, so go all in and do the all grain and you'll be glad you did.
Did a yeast starter for one batch, then harvested that yeast for another batch. Great fermentation in both and both beers turned out terrific! I prefer to bottle this one vs. kegging as they keep better and easier to share. As Tallgrass had advertised years ago - even those who don't like dark beers will like this one - so true! My wife turns her nose at a lot of beers in general, but this one she'll actually drink. It's not a dry Irish Stout (like Guinness), but sweeter with a creamy, chocolate flavor. It's a great beer to include in six-pack samplers for family and friends, too.
Usually with my luck, a lot of the things I like end up being discontinued. I enjoy making this beer and hope NB keeps producing and selling this kit!
loved this recipe. i decided to use only 3.5 g of priming sugar and I should have used the full 5. always learning!
This was my first full grain recipe and it was a lot of work but we'll worth it. You will need something large to boil it all in. Mine has a nice chocolate after taste with each sip. Thanks for this kit!
Loved this beer since the days I lived in Kansas. I was heartbroken when I heard Tallgrass had gone out of business after looking everywhere for it. Thankfully I brewed my own and it's almost dead on (I need to get better). Anyone who loves a good stout will love this.
