Cleaning Up Your Homebrew Equipment

Once the yeast has been pitched, it is time to clean your equipment! Clean up is fairly straightforward- simply use the cleaner to remove any deposits from your equipment and air dry.

One thing to note is to not use dish soap on your equipment. Dish soap can interfere with foam formation and stability, and may leave an off taste in your beer. It is always best to use a brewery cleaner on your equipment.

You will also want to avoid using any abrasive brushes or scrubbers (such as steel wool), as they will leave scratches in your equipment. Once scratched, the equipment has somewhere for wild yeast and bacteria to hide during the decontamination step. This means that it will be exceptionally difficult to impossible to properly decontaminate scratched equipment.
