Product details

Alt refers to an old-school, top-fermented style of brewing ale rather than a relatively modern bottom-fermented lager. Altbier is especially associated with the city of Dusseldorf. Alts are a bit difficult to explain to the uninitiated - kind of like a hoppy Oktoberfest? A very malty pale ale? You'll just have to try a glass of coppery-brown, rich, caramelly, and bitter ale to get the idea.

Terrible Customer Service

I received the kit and ordered liquid yeast. It arrived HOT (multiple days of 100+ weather). The liquid yeast had the smallest ice pack with it, and it was like it had been put in the microwave. I asked customer service for a replacement yeast, and they fought me on it and said it would still be good. I pitched the yeast and nothing happened. I ordered a dry yeast overnight from a different company, pitched it, and had activity within 24 hours. I'm worried the liquid yeast ruined the beer and it will be undrinkable. Customer service was awful, they do not stick by their 100% customer satisfaction guarantee and wouldn't give me a refund or send me new yeast. This will be the last time ever ordering from Northern Brewer, and I would recommend staying away from this company altogether.

German Alt Bier - for Oktoberfest

Review: Seemed to brew well and ferment well with the liquid yeast, but is somewhat on the sweeter and darker sides which reduces my liking somewhat.
I carbonate during the conditioning phase, in clear plastic (2 liter) club soda bottles, and it carbonated well within a week of bottling.
Looking forward to conditioning continuing to improve this beer, and convert the sweeter tones to maltier tones – fingers crossed

Bubbly For the Deserving

A good flavored mellow satisfying extract brew.

Excellent mild yet rich brew

We just popped our 1st bottles yesterday; 6 weeks in the making. It was pleasantly mild and yet with a smidge of hoppiness and hint of bitters. Very unique, easy beverage! I used the dry yeast option-rehydrating b4 pitching with perfect action and kept 1st and 2nd fermentation at a 64F temp. This is a keeper!
