Product details

Those among us who are or were farm-boys and -girls will correctly identify them as Holsteins; to the rest of the citified, sissified world, they're spotted cows.

This multigrain Midwestern take on the American cream ale is an uncomplicated, unfussy, lovable guzzler. Pouring straw gold with a snowy pillow of froth, the nose is gentle and sweet, full of its constituent blend of malted and flaked barley and corn, and the flavor is more of the same.

Hops give a little whisper of flowers and spice from the background. A tranquil time-out in a pint glass, a pastoral idyll, a sociable session ale dairyland-style: hey, sometimes a beer is just a beer. Have one.

This is a partial mash beer kit - see our Partial Mash Walkthrough for details.

In addition to the equipment required for malt extract brewing (boiling kettle, primary fermenter, siphon, etc.), you will need the following to brew our partial mash kits:

  • thermometer with a range that includes 120°-170°F
  • mash kettle - a pot with a capacity of at least 4 gallons (the boiling kettle you already have can do double duty)
  • A second pot or kettle with a capacity of at least 2 gallons for heating sparge water
  • large strainer or a nylon mesh bag that can hold up to 5 pounds of wet grain (used to separate the grain from the mash liquid in Step #8)

Very clean and lagers very clear

Great clone that is super refreshing. It's a Big hit with my wife's book club, and my Monday night football crew. I don't have to horde my cases of spotted cow I bring back from the Wisconsin dells anymore. One thing I will note is that patience is key with this beer. Lagering alone will make this beer clear after 2 weeks with the help of a Whirlflock tab. It does have a Different taste and flavor if you drink it with some of the yeast in suspension so just be patient or Filter.

One of my go to brews.

I have enjoyed this kit several times with a few experiments with different yeast and hops. My favorite is utilizing Mandarina hops. 1 oz at the begining of boil and 1oz at the end of boil and fermenting with K-97 yeast. Easy to brew and forgiving of mistakes.

not bad

Not a true cream ale, but ok with some altercations

Oh hehe he this beer is a hoot

This is the kit to purchase if you love beer. The partial mash is very simple, just mind your temps. The finished product dissipates super quickly amongst friends, but that's by design.
