Product details

Those among us who are or were farm-boys and -girls will correctly identify them as Holsteins; to the rest of the citified, sissified world, they're spotted cows.

This multigrain Midwestern take on the American cream ale is an uncomplicated, unfussy, lovable guzzler. Pouring straw gold with a snowy pillow of froth, the nose is gentle and sweet, full of its constituent blend of malted and flaked barley and corn, and the flavor is more of the same.

Hops give a little whisper of flowers and spice from the background. A tranquil time-out in a pint glass, a pastoral idyll, a sociable session ale dairyland-style: hey, sometimes a beer is just a beer. Have one.

This is a partial mash beer kit - see our Partial Mash Walkthrough for details.

In addition to the equipment required for malt extract brewing (boiling kettle, primary fermenter, siphon, etc.), you will need the following to brew our partial mash kits:

  • thermometer with a range that includes 120°-170°F
  • mash kettle - a pot with a capacity of at least 4 gallons (the boiling kettle you already have can do double duty)
  • A second pot or kettle with a capacity of at least 2 gallons for heating sparge water
  • large strainer or a nylon mesh bag that can hold up to 5 pounds of wet grain (used to separate the grain from the mash liquid in Step #8)

Definitely need to age

A pleasure to brew enjoyed the partial mash and extra steps. Started fast in the primary, transferred to secondary after 2 weeks. Rushed it and kegged after one week in secondary, first tastes and wouldn't have reordered. After a few days in the keg it got better, a week into it and will definitely brew again. Definitely want to give it time to condition.

Very close the New Glarus

I have made this several times now and have a friend that makes an annual trip to Wisconsin. If you like the original from the New Glarus brewery you will enjoy this. He always brings some back and we do a comparison. Good summer beer.

My order came perfectly, and I have 2 batches bubbling away, one week apart. I did an early sample and it is excellent! I think that this kit is the best wheat beer out there.
