Product details

Bourbon barrel-aged beers have been a hugely popular style ever since American craft brewers first started exploring this deliciously innovative technique in the 1990s. And the results of those experiments have only become more sought-after over the past decades.

We've packed the best elements of the style, along with the finest ingredients, into a foolproof recipe kit that brings the best of the craft breweries to you. By starting with a stronger-than-average robust porter, then infusing it with bourbon-soaked oak (we recommend Maker's Mark), the end result is quite possibly the best beer ever. You'll have to supply your own bourbon, so be sure to save a little to sip on brew day to really capture the spirit. The intense aroma and flavor of toasted American oak and the sweet graininess of good bourbon meld with the bittersweet roastiness of porter to make for a very characterful beer.

Due to the high starting gravity of this kit, we recommend pitching multiple packs of yeast or preparing a yeast starter for best results.

Order change

I accidentally made an error in my order. When I emailed to ask for a change, the response was prompt, helpful, and made it easy. This is my experience with Northern Brewer all of the time.

Big Hit with Family and Friends

This was my 5th brew as a new home brewer and probably the best one yet. I used all the oak cubes and Woodford bourbon in the recipe and very pleased with the results. Thanks to NB for offering this kit on their 3 kit offer.

Brewing a second batch now. More than half of the first batch disappeared from friends and family devouring it. Going to use Four Roses Bourbon in this batch. FR is a great mixing bourbon, and think it will add to the flavors of the beer. Note: this is a violent fermentation. This will be one that I will continuously have in the fridge. Plan accordingly, it takes 8 weeks before it's ready to drink...but it's worth it.

A very hearty beer.

This takes a while to ferment but is well worth it. This is a sipping beer and not something that you would have have a few of on a hot summer day.
