Gypsum 1 lb.
Gypsum (calcium sulfate) adds permanent hardness (calcium ions) to brewing water; 1 gram per gallon adds 62 ppm calcium, 147 ppm sulfate.
Brewers that use distilled, or RO, water like to add some gypsum back into the water to give it some hardness. Gypsum can also be used to lower the pH of water. Use 1 teaspoon per 5 gallons.
Brewing Gypsum is packaged in 1lb powdered bag. Keep away from moisture after opening.
Happy with my first order with Northern Brewer! The gypsum powder I ordered did the job perfectly; I would order home-brewing supplies from you again.
Yeah it arrived in the mail. -a
I received a white bag of powder labeled gypsum. It could be any other white powder, but I trust Northern Brewer and believe that the powder in the bag is actually what they labeled it to be. I used it in one IPA recipe so far, 1 teaspoon in the mash water. Beer turned out good and I will use again in my pale ale and IPA recipes.
Does the job.
It is what it is, but certainly convenient and economical to have a one-pound bag vs a few ounces in a bottle.
