Product details

Superior to a 5 gallon carboy, the 5 gallon Big Mouth Bubbler® Plastic is a virtually indestructible fermenter, equipped with 3" thick anti-flex ribs, a punted bottom and decreased base diameter for extreme strength and durability. Its smaller footprint preserves precious brew cave space and allows for convenient storage inside a standard brewing bucket.

Now Includes the Big Mouth Bubbler® Universal Carrying Harness for lifting, transporting and ensuring your Big Mouth Bubbler lid stays firmly in place during even the most intense fermentations.

The punted bottom promotes crystal-clear beer by efficiently settling out yeast from finished fermentations. Graduation marks make volume measurement instant and effortless. And, of course, its revolutionary wide mouth eliminates the nightmare of cleaning and sanitizing by giving you direct hands-on access to attack crusted krausen, while simultaneously offering unlimited flexibility in dry-hopping and flavor additions.

Included:

  • Big Mouth Bubbler® - 5 Gallon Plastic Fermenter
  • New Big Mouth Bubbler® Universal Lid
  • Universal Harness for Big Mouth Bubblers®

Required but not included:

The Big Mouth Bubbler® Plastic prevents off-flavors by enabling you to keep the lid on during testing and transfer, avoiding exposure to oxygen with standard-sized ports that can accommodate most fermentation-monitoring equipment. Best of all, it will not shatter if dropped or knocked.

The new Big Mouth Bubbler® Universal Lid fits all Big Mouth Bubbler® Fermenters. The Big Mouth Bubbler® Universal Lid is just like a traditional carboy bung, only bigger! Just as easy to sanitize and set in place too. Removable ribbed silicone ring ensures a positive seal to keep out pests, while the non-threaded design allows the lid to move preventing an out-of-control fermentation from dangerously pressurizing your fermenter.

Lid ports work with our Small Universal Stopper or a standard 6.5 rubber stopper.

Note: We recommend a soft cloth for cleaning the inside. Standard carboy brushes will scratch plastic fermenters leaving places for grime to hide. A warm cleaning solution will suffice. Do not use hot water on plastic fermenters of any sort. The Big Mouth Bubbler® is compatible with a standard carboy dryer when the dryer is used inverted.

*Pro Tip: Save your box and use it as a cover for your fermenter!

5 gallon fermenters are best for the secondary conditioning stage of beer fermentation. The smaller size eliminates extra airspace in the fermenter reducing the chances of oxidation which can stale the beer prematurely. Also available as a 6.5-gallon primary fermentor.

    Big Mouth Bubbler

This is my second BMB fermentor and they are quite handy. The only reason it's not a 3-star item is you need duct tape to hold the lid down on a vigorous ferment (with a blow-off hose). That is extremely frustrating, but there is always gold ole duct tape for the win.

    Great products and informative videos

I love your company and your u tube videos are fantastic and I’ve learned a lot in the past 2 years of brewing with thanks to your company. I usually don’t complain but the only reason I have is the slow shipping time to where I live in Northern California. That said everything else is great. Cheers for more beers! Nathan

    Big Mouth Bubbler

The big mouth bubbler is great. It is an extra secondary so I can have two finishing in secondary fermentation.

    a game-changer

The wide-mouth carboy is an absolute game-changer, for pouring and *especially* for cleaning. Like, why weren't we doing this from the start?! The quality from NB is also unparalleled; this thing is going to last me for the rest of time!

I bought 10 bubblers for my business. Instead of grains, i ferment peppers.
    PROS:
    Lightweight (compared to glass),
Sturdy. It has some heft to it which makes nicer to work with. I feel like this can handle 35 lbs of ingredients while being moved around.
The harness is a HUGE plus and is a must have to secure the lid.
I like the dimensions. Nice and tall with a narrow footprint, but wide enough to be stable.
Transparent. Its nice to see the condition of my mash as it ferments.
Takes bungs that you can stick a standard 3p airlock into.
Three (3) ribbed gasket for lid makes me confident that there is a good seal.

    CONS:
Bung hole is too big. I've only ever said that one time before, but in this instance, its a suggestion flaw. I believe the 6.5 bungs would be a better choice as the 6" bungs can push through from the top.
The useless threading. You can tell this a is a repurposed design.
Lid can slowly creep up so it needs to be monitored. The harness does help to keep it secure, but a ring like on a 2p mason jar would make a better solution. I have used binder clips to keep the lid tight as well.
The inside does not need all that bubbling decoration to add more surface area.
When transporting using the harness and an airlock, you will compress the overall bubbler and force air out, through your airlock, then when you set the bubbler down, you could have suckback form the airlock. Keep the bubbler in a hotel pan and us that to transport.

Overall, its a great unit. The PROs outweigh the cons by a long shot. Use or lose the threading. Keep the harness. Figure out a better fitting bung size. Loose the texturing inside the unit. They did a great job with all the major points with some room for improvement. Id like to see what they come up with for the next generation. By then, ill be ready to upgrade and ill pick up a dozen of those.
