Product details

The fermenter that started it all, reinvented again! We've taken the revolutionary Big Mouth Bubbler® glass and re-engineered it with the help of world-class Polish master glassmakers to ensure sturdy, solid, superior craftsmanship.

Now Includes the Big Mouth Bubbler® carrying harness for lifting, transporting and ensuring your Big Mouth Bubbler lid stays firmly in place during even the most intense fermentations.

Extra-thick glass eliminates oxygen permeation and keeps your brew safe. Banish bugs and bacteria with perfectly air-tight seals from a carefully ground, completely smooth and obsessively flat neck top.

In the evolution of Big Mouth Bubbler®, we've added some perks! Instantly measure volume with gallon graduation marks. Easier transfer of clear beer with a taller, narrower body while ensuring less liquid is left behind.

5 gallon fermenters are best for the secondary conditioning stage of beer fermentation similar to a traditional 5 gallon carboy. The smaller size eliminates extra airspace in the fermenter reducing the chances of oxidation which can stale the beer prematurely. Also available as a 6.5-gallon primary fermentor.

Caution: Big Mouth Bubbler® is a large hand-formed glass item that can be easily damaged if not used with proper care and handling. It may have variations in shape and thickness, and will show the normal bubbling characteristics of hand-formed glass. Extreme changes in temperature or sudden contact with hard surfaces may cause glass to crack. Handle with care.

Bid your funnel and siphon sayonara! Pour cooled wort directly from your kettle into the Big Mouth Bubbler® for instant transfers. Pitch yeast without it running down the sides of your fermentor. Easily add flavorings to secondary, and then just as easily remove them!

Gallon graduation markings help ensure precise measurement of fermenter volume.

Last but not least, you asked and we listened: more space for the adhesive FermagraF° LCD thermometer than any other glass fermentor! The most obsessively engineered glass fermentor ever created. We are proud and excited to introduce the new and improved Big Mouth Bubbler® EVO 2.

Glass BMB

I have 14 big mouth bubblers. They are full of fermenting hot sauce, Sauerkraut, carrots, KImche and mostly vinegar. Wish I had something like this years ago when I had 15 gallons of home brew going every week. You can clean these things easily. I put the cardboard boxes in wooden boxes I mad with handles which keeps a constant temp, protects them and easy to handle. The modern air locks are trash for the first weeks of fermenting, so back to a coke bottle and tube till things slow down and then put the modern air locks. I like glass.

More Lid Problems

My problem isn't so much with the lid itself but it is with the size of the hole in the lid. The hole was large enough that the drilled 6.5 stopper would easily push complete through the hole. The first time that this happened the stopper fell to the bottom of a Barley Wine that was just moved into the Big Mouth Bubbler EVO 2.
Either the hole in the lid is too large or the drilled 6.5 stopper is too small.
Northern Brewers is on top of this and they are sending me a replacement lid.

Great secondary fermenter

I'm very happy with the 5 gallon big mouth but the lid does need some attention. As a secondary I have had great results.

Worth it for the ease of cleaning!

It is SO MUCH easier to clean this carboy than the traditional carboy.

My only “complaint” is that my usual 5.25 gallon batches (try to squeeze out all I can!) are too high and some beer went into the airlock. It needs just a bit more headspace that I gave it. Curses NB for forcing me to brew ever-so-slightly smaller batches! 😂
