Some (but not all) of our recipe kits call for extended aging, dry hops, or additions of oak cubes or fruit purees after fermentation is complete but before the beer is bottled - this is where a 5 gallon secondary fermentor comes in. Better clarity, less sediment in the bottle, and a smoother overall flavor are fringe benefits. Plus, more carboys means you can brew more beer - everybody wins! Includes: 5 gallon glass carboy, drilled bung, and airlock. Glass carboys are impermeable and can withstand more rigorous cleaning than plastic carboys. The 5 gallon size minimizes headspace to help reduce the chance of oxidation in your home brew.

The perfect addition to any of our Beer Making Starter Kits.

Should be one of your first brewing upgrades
I am so glad that I purchased this secondary fermentor. It is easy to use and clean but best of all I can see what's going on inside. Whether I'm dry hopping or flavor infusing the Raise Your Game Secondary Glass Fermentor makes it easy. Even my friends like to come in and check on the progress of the beer. I highly recommend this as the first upgrade to any starter kit.

Secondary fermentation
It did a great job of clarifying and completing the fermentation of my Abbey double batch. After bottling the beer today, it cleaned up easily with the wash product.

Price doesn't make sense
You can buy all 3 pieces seperatly for $1.50 less. I don't know why anyone would buy this. Very poor pricing on NB part

It Worked!
This was my second batch after a rough first batch of many missteps. Now, after almost 9 weeks in the bottle, I feel confident that making good beer is possible. (I was not so sure after the first taste.) I have to admit, some bottles were not good. I think I am still figuring out a good sanitation routine. I tried to clean old commercial bottles. But the beer that survived my poor sanitizing regimen turned out great. The beer is so clear I can read my monitor through it. Except for some Whirlfloc at the end of the boil and a secondary of 17 days, I did nothing special to clear the beer, and it did not clear completely until 8 weeks in the bottle. I used the dry yeast and the beer turned out like a real IPA with with a slightly bready taste and a touch of fruit. The hops expressed themselves as citrus and floral. The head is about an inch in the glass with excellent persistence. The Maris Otter malt from NB really came through. I did not hit the projected gravity after the boil (1.059) and the final gravity was a little high (1.019). But the results in the glass were still good. After my initial skepticism about the nice comments from my friends (some homebrewers), I finally realized that this beer is good, and the recipe worked! I am giving the kit 5 stars, because I think it does a good job of helping extract brewers make good quality beer. For one thing, the late addition malt, really allows for better bittering hop attenuation in the boil. Newer brewers don't know these things (I didn't), and building the kit right helps a lot.

Excellent addition to my home brewing essentials
The 3-pc secondary fermentor in glass was a solid welcome addition. I have both plastic and glass carboys and find the glass is better to clean and less prone to surface wear. It adds a little extra weight versus the plastic unit, but overall worth the extra money. Also noted the glass carboys I received were "made in Italy".

Is the bung rubber?
kevin k on Jan 12, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it is a fairly hard rubber and grips the airlock and fermentor well.
Do you have these without ribbing?
A shopper on Jul 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Currently, our carboys all will have the ribbed sides.
