Product details

Omega Yeast's Cosmic Punch (OYL-402) is the first strain released as a part of their Thiolized™ series. Thiolized™ process enhances a yeast’s natural ability to biotransform compounds found in malt and hops to unleash thiols that evoke grapefruit, passion fruit, and guava aromas reminiscent of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and Southern Hemisphere Hops. The parental strain, British V (OYL-011), is a staple for making hazy New England IPAs but is now capable of producing significantly enhanced tropical aromatics while maintaining the well-known characteristics of the original strain, allowing you to pack even more desirable aromas into each pint.

 Cosmic Punch Characteristics:

  • Temp Range: 64 - 75°F
  • Attenuation: 71 - 75%
  • Flocculation: High
  • Alcohol Tolerance: 10%

I bought 10 packets of cosmic punch!

And Northern Brewer made it easy as pie. There’s nothing like punch and pie. Nothing I know of, anyway.

Thiolized yeast?

I tried this yeast side-by-side (split batch) with standard packet yeast in a batch of "Fresh Squished". Have to say, there is something different about it in a good way. All my review team (friends, family) could taste a subtle, cleaner tasting beer. Hard to actually put a definition to it, but it does seem to make a slightly fruiter, fresher smelling beer when compared to the the standard (which is quite good on its own). It is worth experimenting with, but not sure I would use it as a "go-to". It is definitely worth a try if you are looking to play a bit. I enjoyed the results, and will try other variations of this yeast.

Yeast order

Yeast worked well. Took weeks to ship my order though. Definitely will look at other suppliers in the future

Needed more time to fully review

Hi, the beer is still in the fermenter. But you’re putting on the full court press for feedback. I’m assuming the yeast was good when it left the factory, but by the time I got it, it measured 93 degrees F! So I had to run out and buy Proper Starter to try and save it. The fermentation looks normal, but there was only one tiny freezer pack in the shipment which was not enough to insure a multiple day trip in summer heat. I would recommend better packaging for yeast shipments. It kind of stressed me out. Thanks for asking…
